So so happy. Their chicken is 15/10. Just absolutely delicious and perfectly crunchy. Almost impossible to Tell it’s gf. Fries are amazing. Customer service was great. Symptomatic celiac, no symptoms after eating. Only issue is that we were confused because we couldn’t tell if the entire place is GF or just some Items. The employee said he didn’t know. It was a bit stressful Because it was not too clear. But we stuck to the slaw. Fries. And chicken tenders Nashville hot and regular. Wanted to get the Thai wings but had no clarity if they are gf or not. Same w the salads. Kinda stressful but what we got was BOMB AF
Amending my review because of some mixed messaging I just discovered. The GF on their menus and allergy list only means (the unhelpfully vague term) "gluten friendly" despite staff refering to it "gluten free"... Conversely, my server had also told me the fries contain 5% gluten... Head office now tells me they meant they contain 5 parts per millions in regular testing, well below the standard to be considered gluten free (20ppm), so they should be safe for celiacs after all. So staff not as knowledgeable as I first thought... Confusing!Proceed with caution! 🥴
My original review:
Great variety of GF chicken options marked on menu - BUT despite the fries being marked GF on menu and allergy info, they are actually a cross contamination risk because they are fried in same fryer as gluten-containing churros. Always an annoyance that they mark such things as GF!! But helpful and knowledgeable staff... Like, surprisingly knowledgeable for a fast food chain.
I went to this location less than a month ago and had the chicken tenders and fries combo. I was assured it was all gluten free, and I did not get sick. I went today and was told that there is actually cross contamination for the fries, as they are fried in the same fryer as the churros. There seems to be confusion on what is actually safe, but would recommend double checking with the location before eating the fries. Bummer, but would still go back for the chicken tenders
GF fried chicken and fried chicken salads along with sandos (lettuce wrap). Chicken is moist and crunchy. Clean and tasty fast food with good flavor and value.
Fries are contaminated but plenty of other good sides. Coleslaw was solid.
Other favorite fried chicken is Korean fried chicken PAPA’S in K-Town but Starbird is a great option if in the Beverly Grove area.
Guys this place is legit. Fully gf menu. The tenders were just that. Tender, juicy, and delicious. Lots of sauces. Spicy or not. Cheap and yummy. I got 3 tenders with half fries half Cole slaw. The drinks are really good too. A bit sweet but I just added a little water. Go. Just go.
Fried chicken is my favorite food and I’ve tried all gf fried chicken in LA and at home, and I’m not kidding when I tell you this is the best I’ve ever had. Basically it’s a gf raising canes. The tenders, nuggets, fries, and slaw are celiac safe. Manager said all chicken and fries are in dedicated fryers. They have allergen menu too which tell you which sauces are gf
Super crispy on the outside and very moist on the inside. All the employees were so friendly and helpful. The chicken is in its own fryer. Fries are not celiac safe as they are fried in the same one as their churros. The slaw is yummy and has a little sweetness to it. As long as I stay feeling good, I would definitely come back again.
We have eaten here a couple of times due to the GF menu options and did not previously have any issues. However, our last visit did not go well, as our family member with celiac had a severe reaction. The staff this time were not knowledgeable this visit. But since we had no issues prior, we ordered the GF nuggets for our family member with celiac. We never get the fries for our celiac family member because it's unclear from staff how these are cooked. I'm not sure what happened this last visit (2/14/25) but we will not be going here again.
I’ve eaten at many Starbird locations and never been sick. Since this one opened, I’ve been several times. I generally get tenders or nuggets with the slaw, as some locations have the fries and churros cooked in the same frier (though I’ve never had an issue when I’ve eaten the fries and am generally quite sensitive). Absolutely my favorite place to get chicken, and the staff at this location are friendly and willing to answer any questions, from my experience.
This place used to be the place to go for a quick GF meal for fried chicken and fries. I just learned that the fries are now fried in a shared fryer with churros. So now only the chicken is gluten free.
Not sure if this is the case at all locations or will always be the case but you should definitely ask if you go there. The introduction of more non-gf items makes me uncomfortable too as it increases the odds of cross contamination.
Also the vegan chicken, desserts, and buns are not gluten free last I checked. Their menus do not show this clearly. You must go to the allergens page or ask.
I've eaten here, and other Starbird locations, at least a dozen times over the past few years and I've never had a reaction. Good quality fried chicken with a wide variety of sauces, and best of all, Starbird lists allergy info for their entire menu:
https://www.starbirdchicken.com/starbird-chicken-nutrition-and-allergy-information
Not everything is gluten free, but the majority of the menu is safe and clearly labelled. I like the Nashville hot tenders with star sauce and Greek yogurt ranch, and the chop, cobb, and elote salads. The fries are okay - could be crispier in my opinion.
Bottom line - if you're craving fried chicken or need a late night takeout option, Starbird hits the spot!
BEST GLUTEN FREE FRIED CHICKEN EVER! I frequent this location because the quality of the food is so amazing. The chicken is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I always get the chicken strips and fries. (skip the slaw, it’s gf just gross haha) Most of their sauces are gluten free - the star sauce and ranch are my favorites! I never get sick and that’s a miracle considering how tasty this chicken is. Be sure to order at the counter with an employee, not at the kiosk. This way you can add a note to ask them to change their gloves. Add this to your list of places to try, you certainly won’t regret it!
