Overall it seems like a place that's conscious of Celiac Disease and makes an effort to provide gluten free food, but maybe is a little lax in their execution and their protocols.
I feel ~mostly okay after eating here, but I definitely do not feel 100%. Got the Baja tacos, with gluten free corn tortillas. When the tacos came out, there wasn't any indicator that the tortillas were corn based and not flour based, which scared me. They ended up being corn tortillas (I think - if they had been flour, I would be much sicker right now). Had to rely on the server for help there, but the server did not inspire a great deal of confidence, and said some things that kind of made my eyebrows raise. The menu did have a few gluten free options but everything was labeled "gluten free friendly" which, I mean, I understand. It is a chain, they serve a lot of gluten food, they can't guarantee there will be no cross contamination, but still, the use of the word "friendly" in relation to gluten always strikes terror in me.
So I don't know. Seems like a lot of people have had great experiences here. Maybe I'm just especially sensitive.
Best burger ever!! Service was great!
The staff said there would be precautions but I'm not confident any were taken. The menu has items starred that are "Gluten-Free Friendly" with an asterisk at the bottom of the menu indicating using gluten free ingredients but acknowlinging the facility is not gluten free.
I ordered the BBQ chicken salad, my sister who is gluten intolerant ordered the fish tacos as did my husband, both indicating it as needing to be gluten free. When the food came out we realized the side which is the Mexican corn salad is not marked with a star under the sides section. So even though the meal is marked and the server was told, a non gluten free menu item was still included as part of the meal.
I wouldn't normally have taken the risk but this was a gathering with out of town family following a funeral and I didn't want to be a nuisance, I won't be taking the risk again as I have no confidence it was safe
I wish they still served gf pasta.
Had a great experience at Rusty Bucket tonight.
They accidentally put fries on the plate with my gluten free burger, which I can’t have since those aren’t gluten free.
I wasn’t upset or anything, that was no big deal to me. But I was impressed because the manager and waitress personally apologized, comped my burger, and gave me a piece of gluten free cheesecake.
We also had great service from the waitress. Didn’t quite get her name… Anne or Amber š
A few GF options including a dessert. Tasty food. Good service and drinks.
The food is good here, but I don’t feel safe eating here even with gluten free modifications on the menu. My server was very aware I couldn’t eat gluten, and my salad came out with croutons. I asked if they were gluten free, and he said no, so I asked for a new salad. No big deal, mistakes happen. But then he served me the same salad, with the croutons picked off (with obvious crouton crumbs). The manager did end up bringing me a new one after I talked to him, but if you have celiac, I wouldn’t risk it here.
Our server might of been new, because she knew absolutely nothing about celiac disease and nothing about what makes a dish gluten free. She had to go to the back a few times to ask questions, which I appreciated.
I had the burger with a gluten free bun, and mashed potatoes which were all marked gluten free.
Well, I’m thinking the cross contamination in this restaurant is too high because 7-8 hours after I ate (haven’t eaten anything else since), I was puking and pooping forever. And puke warning, it was only what I had at Rusty Bucket, and nothing else I had previously that day.
Celiacs, maybe do not take the chance. Praying that I have healed enough internally where this will not affect me tomorrow when I wake up but we will see
80 min wait Food bad No apologies
I ordered the gluten free bacon cheeseburger on DoorDash. I was sent a regular burger which I didn’t realize until I took a bite. The in person experience may be better but it definitely isn’t safe to DoorDash.
I was so excited about the Baja fish tacos, which were delicious, until l realized they were made on flour tortillas. I threw them out after the first bite.
Probably 80% of the menu is not GF, but the GF options we got were delicious and caused no reactions. We shared the double-stack quesadilla, blackened salmon salad, and each got a burger. Burgers made using a much better bun than the typical Udi’s brand, and there wasn’t any up charge for using the GF buns. Will definitely add this to our list of go-to places.
This was my first time at the Rusty bucket and my meal was amazing! My husband and I shared two items. Thefirst item was a chicky chicky bowl with herb chicken , kale ,cabbage , brown rice ,pickled carrots ,curried cauliflower ,marinated tomato ,beets ,pinenuts and goat cheese !! It was amazing , the second dish we had was baked rigatoni crushed meatballs tomato rag out whipped ricotta mozzarella and basil both of them were terrific and we topped it off with the gluten-free cheesecake!!!
I ate here three times this week because the food was so good. Confidently gluten free. The servers each time knew exactly what I was taking about and they assured me proper protocol is followed in the kitchen (hand washing etc). I had the chiki bowl and the blackened salmon salad with mashed potatoes. Incredibly good. My colleague ate the burger (also can be made gf), and said it was the best burger he ever ate.
I asked for the GF quesidilla, it was brought out as a regular. I asked to make sure it was the gluten free and they assured me it was, I had to ask a second time before the chef confirmed it was not gluten free. It took another 20 minutes for the gluten free version to come back out.
Food was just OK. Definitely not worth my wife getting sick from the one time we ate here. She requested Gluten free but she had a strong reaction anyway. She is celiac, so especially sensitive to gluten, but we won't be back.
The food here is decent & I have never had a reaction. However, I stopped going due to the suspicious price increase. Example: A gluten free double nickel salad costs more than the regular despite it being the same thing (minus the GF having no Bleu cheese). This is unethical IMHO.
It’s a bar food restaurant, so you better not set your expectations at “gourmet.” That said, this is a great place to grab dinner. I generally get a hamburger w/ mashed potatoes on the side. I’ve never been cross contaminated, yet. You need to ask for a gluten free menu, since it’s separate from the regular menu. No frills, but tastes great.
There was an entire separate GF menu - including GF beer. I had the quesadilla (with corn tortilla) - SUPER good, and the bacon BBQ burger. The GF bun was alright - held its shape pretty well. Appreciated the GF beer since I’m not a fan of cider.
Great experience! They have gluten free cheesecake!
While they have a gluten free menu, I am also corn free. They didn’t seem to l ow how to handle that and my meal had corn in it somewhere because I had a reaction. Our waitress was great but it took 30 minutes for appetizers and then the rest of the meal came out cold and incorrect
