Not gluten friendly at all. Automated ordering system with little help available from employees. No option to add allergies to order. Was told just to "order without a bun and it will be fine".

The food isn't awful. The GF items are very, very, very limited. Chili, deluxe chili, some sides, soft drinks and tea. No dessert, no burgers, not even salads really because of CC. Honestly, if I had the opportunity to choose, I would not choose here.

Ordering without the bun did well for me. Told them I was celiac and they changed their gloves etc. Fries ARE gluten free.

Online it says they have gluten free but when I asked they said none of their food is gluten free. Don’t waste your time.

I haven’t eaten at this location but other locations have not made me sick
Their burgers are good without the bun. Fries are thin, crispy, and yummy. Most shakes are gf.

Staff slightly knowledgeable but unaccommodating. Not celiac or allergen friendly.
No
I have Celiacs and eat here frequently without having a problem. They have a separate frier for fries and are knowledgeable about glove changes and cleaning the machine for allergy milkshakes. They dont have gluten free buns, but otherwise a good place to eat.
Yes
There isn’t a GF menu or GF indicated on the menu. No dedicated fryer. Wait staff was not knowledgeable of Celiac. I ordered chili deluxe which tasted like a canned chili and it was topped sparsely with chopped white onion and shredded cheese. It is getting 2 stars because the chili did not make me sick.
No
the best options here are runny chili and a mediocre garden salad. if you look at their internal documents all of the salad except for the garden salad to have wheat in them. 0/10 I usually don't have too much trouble with a non dedicated fryer but their fries made me sick.
No
Wait staff and cook line not knowledgeable about celiac and gluten free. Their chili and coleslaw are supposed to be gluten free and I had the most violent reaction I have ever had after eating these food items at Steak N Shake. I will never take a chance eating there again. Must have been cross contamination of some sort.
No
Staff was super knowledgeable about cross contamination . Told me what is safe. Fries are not. No separate fryer. Had the garden Salad. They have Gf buns. Super good experience.
Yes
There is nothing gluten free there.
No
They were very attentive to taking our order and confirming that the burgers were prepared properly. They said we could not have French fries, but had individual bagged Lay’s plain chips for us. I would not recommend the shakes because they use a shared blender. We ordered our meal to go and manager brought out our meal wearing gloves and explained my order to me. They also provided individual condiment packets.
Yes
Manager was upfront that they couldn’t provide gluten free. We couldn’t eat there
No
Read ingredients all burgers contain wheat !!!!! No gluten fr÷ option other then shakes.

I asked the waiter who took my order (strawberry milkshake) what I needed & he fought me. Very rude. Will not trust in the future.
No
Our waitress didn’t know anything about Gluten but was happy to be educated. They do not have a dedicated fryer which is disappointing. My son did enjoy his lettuce wrapped burger and his milkshake. The waitress did make sure the kitchen staff changed their gloves.
Staff was very unfamiliar with GF needs. Waitress said she was happy to try accommodating us. They do have a dedicated grill for meat and separate one for buns, but NOT for fries/onion rings. We asked for shake to be hand stirred. Food was good, but it required ALOT to get set-up. I would be VERY cautious.
No
Staff was unsure of gluten free fare. Daughter ate a burger without the bun.
The waitress told me her manager said they are not to serve anyone with a gluten allergy. Not even a plain hamburger patty or salad.

Gogo here! Oh dear me. I went to the Steak n Shake in Lexington KY and I was visiting the city. I had printed off a gf menu from the website and the lady said she couldn't accommodate me. Someone in my party told them that they had advertised gluten free and they were like, "We'll see what we can do." So then, I was only able to eat a steakburger patty with plain raw carrots. So delicious right ๐๐๐? It was okay but if I'm going to a restaurant that is sub par. Then I went to a Steak n Shake in Bristol TN. Me and my friend went and got tea, which was good, but the lady there said they didn't even know what we were talking about! She was sweet and apologetic, just not knowledgeable! DO NOT GO TO STEAK N SHAKE! This place let me down immensely. Just quit advertising if you're not going to offer the product! ๐๐๐ Thanks for reading this review and if you are going to Steak n Shake, just... don't.

not knowledgeable at all. Basically said not to trust that there is no cross contamination. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!
No
The burgers and fries are filler free, unlike any other fast food joints! Wa-hoo! Also, this location is a sit down restaurant so they pay closer attention to your order. SO many noms! Just make sure to order the "double" if you're hungry, trust me on this.
No
I can eat their fries, steak burger patties and hot dogs without the bun, condiments and most sauces. Never gotten glutened there..or at any restaurant in the chain.
Sucks
Steak 'n Shake is a bit of a challenge, but depending upon your sensitivity, here are a few suggestions: cottage cheese, fries, cheese fries, burgers without the bun, shakes, salads, and sodas. Their breakfast menu is also good if you stick to eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, etc.
No
I LOVE this restaurant!!! Why? Cuz *unlike* McDonald's, the fries at Steak N Shake *are* gluten-free!!!!!!!!!!! I take off the bun of their steakburgers, and eat them too; NO fillers in the hamburger patties. Also, because I eat low-FODMAP, knowing there are no onions, garlic, or other spices added to the meat that would cause problems...is huge!! They don't have fillers and junk used in their meat; a rarity in chain restaurants nowadays. I'm seeing no problems from eating their burgers without a bun....so I eat their fries with their burgers (bunless).....and it's awesome food!!! Highly recommended.
Yes
I don't have celiac, but I'm very gluten sensitive. I enjoy the chili, fries, and burgers without buns. Very tasty and low-cost!
Allergen list is extensive and a GF menu can be found online. The staff knows nothing about celiac, no manager on duty, and no printed GF menu.
