Celiac safe, but extremely overpriced. They do $3-4 street tacos which are about 2-3 bites each. The only thing remotely worth the cost was the chicken rice bowl which was filling but bland, only including brown rice, lightly seasoned verde chicken, and raw bell pepper slices. Basically a $10 bowl of rice with a half cup of chicken. It tastes good, but be prepared for an annoying online ordering experience on your phone and a large check if you’re with a large party.

So so yummy, I got the cauliflower bowl and it was very good. Almost everything is GF, the staff is knowledgeable about it all. Separate fryer and grill for gluten-containing items, so I felt safe. Menu has items with gluten marked.

I contacted them before going to see how they handle GF orders and cross-contamination. Here’s the response:

Great experience! Everything is gluten free except kids quesadillas and desserts (though actually you can get gelato in a cup too). Our table shared some ceviche and guacamole and chips and I had the fish, pork belly and shrimp tacos (warning: that one is spicy!) The Baja taco was my favorite and I got a pomegranate limonada drink which was amazing too! Highly recommend.

I don't think there is anything I can say about this place that hasn't already been said. I went there last night and it was amazing! I had the fried fish taco, pork belly and grilled shrimp tacos. Two of each, to be exact! I loved the fact that the app let me to note my food allergies and it was wonderful not having to constantly ask "Is this gluten free?" I can't wait to eat here again.

Omg! They are the most accommodating restaurant I’ve been to in quite some time. The entire restaurant is gluten free however I have other allergies in addition to gluten. Staff is knowledgeable about Celiac. Pretty much everything on the menu is GF except for a few desserts. Even their fried fish is made with rice flour. They made it a point to let me know that the non-GF churros are fried in their own fryer, separate from everything GF. They told me that the kitchen will prepare carefully and change gloves…even though most everything is GF already. Very safe and low stress GF experience.

13 different proteins for tacos or rice bowls. Rice bowls are on the smaller size but they are perfect. Tried the pork belly rice bowl, spicy chicken taco and sesame ribeye taco. Great flavors! Only 2 items in the menu are not gluten free. Kids quesadilla and the desserts are not gluten free.

I can’t stop thinking about this place. The fish tacos are incredible. The margaritas are amazing and the service is fast and covid-conscious. I will be back!

Edit: I’ve been back three times. So far so good. It can get packed so make sure you join the waitlist 30 minutes in advance. Pretty loud but one of the managers was friendly. He was pretty close to me the entire time, Covid excluded, I like my personal space lol. I really liked the food the first time I came but its okay food. It’s fast, fresh, and safe which is important. Perhaps the first time is the best.

Omg! So delicious!! Everything we had was delicious & the staff was super welcoming & knowledgeable about Celiac. Everything we had was great: pork belly tacos, fish tacos, pork tacos, mushroom tacos. The kids loved their tacos & quesadillas, too. First time customer here, I am from out of town. Found this place on the app and my expectations were fairly high given the type of fare. I ordered the fried cod taco box and the pork belly taco box and included bib lettuce on both entrees.

I can’t remember the last time I had fried fish! Living gf in the smaller midwestern areas is like that though.

I liked the fish tacos. Very crisp and mild. Definitely needed the hot sauce and bib lettuce IMO. Pork belly was AMAZING. Best pork belly I have ever had. Had to stop myself from licking the fat drippings. Also benefitted from the hot sauce and bib lettuce.

An otherwise perfect (urban-area/over-priced) taco dinner would have earned an easy-made fan, but they forgot to include one pack of (4) tortillas and the bib lettuce needed a quick wash. I am glad I ordered as much as I did, or it would have been a fork and finger dinner with no vessel for the tacos.

I assume some issue with the receipt printer might have thrown someone off balance with the bag assembly (so as to have accidentally neglected a pack of tortillas) because it was ripped and stapled oddly.

95% of their menu is GF and they asked if it was for celiac or not. My daughter ate the chicken, steak and baja fish tacos plus salsa and guacamole and not only was it safe, NO issues, but it was DELICIOUS!

In addition to celiac, the allergies at our table were: wheat, shellfish, peanuts and sunflower. Issues eating here: ZERO.

They added a fried oyster taco. Yummy. We also had guac, empanadas, street corn, duck tacos, and chicken soup. Everything was 100% delicious!

Almost everything on the menu is gluten free. When I called to inquire they told me they are “the gluten free Mecca!” And they were right. Everything is so good and fresh ingredients. Let them know about the severe gluten allergy and didn’t get sick. Would definitely go back!

Many GF options. Their tacos are small and I’ve definitely tasted better. However, cool atmosphere and the plantains are phenomenal!

Great experience here - host and server seemed knowledgeable about celiac. Amazingly, only the desserts had gluten in them (in addition to the kid’s meal quesadilla) so there was little risk of cross contact. A new spot I’d highly recommend in Bucktown!

I absolutely DO NOT recommend Bartaco if you have Celiac! I ordered a to-go order over the phone and was asked if I had any allergies. So I explained that I HAD to order gluten-free because of an allergy. During the conversation I told the employee we had to make sure that it was gf several times. An hour later my daughter had gotten so sick from her food. And yes I'm 100% certain it was what she had eaten.
