WOW! A celiac safe meal at the airport? I never thought it would happen. As soon as I said “gluten free”, the gentleman who was helping me asked if I had celiac. I nodded and he immediately changed his gloves. I had the burrito bowl, and he pulled fresh ingredients from the back to prevent cross contamination. He was well informed of the gluten free options-there was no guessing or checking a random binder under the counter ;). And the best part? They all helped me with a happy attitude! Will definitely go back when I’m flying through O’Hare again.
I asked about their GF options and they told me the bowls were gluten free. They also asked me if I had Celiac without me bringing it up first, which is great. After I said yes, the server changed his gloves and used a separate scoop for some of the ingredients. The opened new bags of other ingredients like cheese for me. Very safe from what I could tell and the food was about a 7 out of 10.
Even though it was busy they took every precaution. They do serve a lot of flour tortillas but they washed hands, changed gloves, got the food from containers that aren’t on the burrito line. Very appreciated. Everyone knew the protocol. The food is fine, nothing special- except that they care if I get sick which makes them really stand out at the airport.
Burrito Beach at Chicago. O’Hare was awesome. I’m recently diagnosed with celiac and travel quite a bit, and finding food in an airport has been a challenge. I’ve been researching this more and more, and I ended up having to walk to terminal three in order to find an acceptable meal. It took me about 20 minutes, but was well worth it. Just as people have said in the past, once they knew I was celiac they immediately wash their hands and put on new gloves and did an incredible job. Highly recommended. I just wish they had one of these in terminal one or two.
Knowledgeable and safe. The server had just changed his gloves and when I mentioned Celiac, he changed his gloves again. From other reviews, I got the low carb bowl with grilled chicken. They pulled the ingredients from underneath and got salsa verde from in the back. With all that the service was still fast.
Update: Still my go-to Celiac GF @ORD The employee named Free knows everything we are concerned about cross contact - got most ingredients from new, unopened packages for me.
Very accommodating!! I asked about the GF options (there’s a little sign when you walk up to the counter) and the man working the line asked if I was celiac. I said yes and he immediately took his gloves off, washed his hands, told me the options, and used different utensils to “get my food” out of the containers. Even opened a separate bag of cheese and the onion/cilantro mix for me. I would come back again for sure! (note: i am an asymptomatic celiac).
Took my wife here after looking at reviews. Incredible service! She has celiac, I do not. Went up together and the man immediately had me order first so he could re-glove and prep the counter. Did not hold up the line at all! They had separate pre-packed containers for salsas and sauces that came after any non-gf items. Def coming back
I asked about gluten-free options (as directed by the menu sign) and the worker asked _me_ if I had celiac. When I confirmed this, he explained the available menu options and immediately changed his gloves. He followed special handling procedures and they appear to have segregated ingredients when necessary.
The food was fine, but airport Mexican had a pretty low ceiling.
I’ve never experienced this level of celiac care at an airport restaurant before. Like other reviews mention, the staff was super helpful with telling me what ingredients were gluten free, changed gloves without me asking, and one person took my food down the line, pulling from fresh containers as much as possible and using new scoops.
Great experience. When I informed them of my allergy the employee washed his hands, changed gloves and used disposable cups to scoop all ingredients from the filler bins. They were so helpful and polite. I'd highly recommend this place.
I had the steak, so tender and delicious.
Mentioned I had celiac disease and they made ensure to change gloves and take MOST of the ingredients from a fresh container. When I asked if they would take from a fresh rice container the response was that they would take from the side of the container that wasn’t touched with a new scooper. I asked multiple times and they were insistent it was fine. Fingers crossed I don’t get sick.
SO SAFE and so nice I love them 🥹🥹 when I asked for gluten free they asked if I had celiac and then changed their gloves, took out clean/new lettuce and cheese and used new scoopers for the food. Said they don’t want anyone getting sick. Would 10/10 recommend this place. Got a bowl with chicken, rice and various toppings.
As other reviewers have mentioned, their allergy/celiac protocol is amazing. I was told by the gentleman who helped me that the only gf meat options are steak and chicken. I don’t fly though Chicago often but it’s nice to know this place is here.
They did amazing. The only gf option is a bowl but that was great. They used new containers of food for all of the ingredients (rice, beans, chkn, cheese, lettuce, guacamole) and disposable utensils to scoop. It was busy and they still took their time. Much appreciated on a busy travel day!
This was so exciting!!!!! They are so knowledgeable, washed their hands, regloved, got out NEW bins to pull from (to lower cross contamination) and used single use scoops. Didn’t get sick. Great and filling meal. Had the medium spicy chicken bowl with greens. Price was great too!
I saw this spot remembered in the app and didn’t mention my celiacs as I just had a bowl— I didn’t get sick which is great!
However, I didn’t think the taste was good at all. I’m very spoiled as a Californian with good Mexican food tho lol. Don’t go here expecting actually good food imho
First time traveling, with a new diagnosis. After reading reviews, I decided to try this place. Super impressive! I told them I was gluten free as a celiac and they knew exactly what to do. Used separate cups to dish food, opened up new packages if needed and had several items individually packaged. The staff also knew what I could and could not have on the menu (worker told he no to the vegetables bc of seasoning). I had a chicken bowl and it was great to have options with flavor. Even better, I met another Celiac in line!
When I went up to order and asked for gluten free options they immediately asked if it was for celiac or sensitive. When I responded celiac, they washed their hands, changed gloves, and used all fresh ingredients from the back to prevent cross contamination. I felt super safe eating here and didn’t have a reaction! Got the carne asada white rice bowl with black beans and salsa.
Had a great experience here after reading another user’s review. When I asked on about gluten free options, they immediately asked if I was Celiac. Changed gloves and used pre-made containers of salsa, sour cream, etc. Knew which toppings I could and could not have. Definitely recommend.
There sign said to ask about the gluten free options. I asked and the response "are you celiac?" Of course, I answered yes, the next action blew me away ... the first person the assembly line called for a member to wash their hands and glove up as they opened all new toppings and assembled my rice bowl with that person all the way til the end! The food was great and service was amazing! Over the top impressed! Staff was very knowledgeable!
