Okay let me start by saying I’ve been to chuy’s before at other locations but after this I will not be returning. When I asked for a gluten free options they gave me a menu which was great. It was quite limited (no meat, no rice, no sauce) but I went with it.
When my plate came the enchiladas I ordered had both rice and sauce on them which the gf menu said were NOT gf. I asked the waitress to double check and she reassured me it was okay.
I ended up sick and with gluten rash shortly after eating. I then talked to another friend who is Celiac and said she had issues at a separate location as well.
Upside- my friends who are not celiac said their food was great.
I felt so taken care of at this location. My waitress didn’t know a lot about the gluten free options so she got a manager to come by and chat with me. He explained all of options I had and even offered for the kitchen crew to clean their work station before cooking my enchiladas. The queso and Jalapeño ranch sauce are not gluten free, but the chips are. My enchilada meal was delicious!
The waitress had the manager come out and talk to me about what they could offer GF. He did tell me that they did not have a dedicated fryer for the chips, but had some baked for me so that I could safely enjoy them too. He also brought out some fresh baked tortillas that were GF & delicious. He did a great job going over what was safe and was not. I felt safe eating here & will definitely be back again!
I was nervous to eat here because I’d seen the reviews that they aren’t gluten friendly, but I was invited to go for a friend’s bday dinner and decided to try it. I called ahead of time and they were able to give me a list of things that were safe: the rice, beans, and any enchilada dish that doesn’t have marinated meat.
When I arrived, I let our waiter know about my allergy and my concerns, and he was extremely helpful and willing to double check with the chefs. I ordered chicken enchiladas and had no reaction. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the positive experience.
