Chuy's is a chain and has 1 gluten free menu in the restaurant (as in 1 for entire place) which at first glance has lots of options but then you read that you can't have rice or most of the proteins etc. My husband and I can tolerate cross contamination so we had the chips and took glutenase. They looked like pure corn chips but likely were in shared fryer. The salsa is chunky with odd sour hint. I usually love salsa but not this one. But the cilantro sauce also offered was excellent. We opted for the MexiCobb salad on the GF menu. I asked to have grilled shrimp which I read online was a GF option but it wasn't on menu. Another reviewer posted GF menu. I recommend looking closer at it to see if you can find something you like. Fun environment. Attentive server.
I was nervous to eat here because I’d seen the reviews that they aren’t gluten friendly, but I was invited to go for a friend’s bday dinner and decided to try it. I called ahead of time and they were able to give me a list of things that were safe: the rice, beans, and any enchilada dish that doesn’t have marinated meat.
When I arrived, I let our waiter know about my allergy and my concerns, and he was extremely helpful and willing to double check with the chefs. I ordered chicken enchiladas and had no reaction. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the positive experience.
