They fry their chips in the same fryer as everything else. So they aren’t safe. Their chicken and steak is marinated in beer. It’s not safe. I ordered non marinated chicken tacos after I was told it’s an option on corn tortillas. They came out on flour. When we sent them back and asked for it to be redone fresh bc I will get sick from the meat being in the flour, my husband watched the cook just switch it over. The kitchen manager fixed it and apologized but if you have severe allergies just skip this place.
The food tastes wonderful, so my family loves going, but I always get sick. Like, seriously sick. Last time I had to eat here, I ended up laying in bed for a day or two in pain.
I went to the Barton Springs location. Aside from overall terrible service, they had NO gluten free menu, or icons on their menu. The server said “they did away with it” and could not tell me if the chips were gluten free and had no clue. A manager-ish person came to speak to me after everyone else ordered and I ordered... my food came at least 15 minutes before everyone else’s. Not a good experience. Living in Austin, I have a MILLION much better and truly safe places to eat this type of cuisine, which is typically all gluten free other than flour tortillas. Come on Chuy’s - step up your gluten free game!!!!!!
Nothing is gluten free except the dinner salad. The corn and flour tortillas are hand made in the same area and have cross contamination. The chicken is marinated in beer. The chips are fried in the same oil as flour products.
When i asked the server if they have a gluten free menu she informed me they do not. BUT the server was gluten free and eats here often! She told me everything is gluten free besides the queso and flour tortillas (obviously) and any of the dishes can have corn tortillas substituted for flour. She also said they are as careful as possible to make sure there is no cross-contamination. Love the food here and happy i can still eat basically everything.
I was nervous to eat here because I’d seen the reviews that they aren’t gluten friendly, but I was invited to go for a friend’s bday dinner and decided to try it. I called ahead of time and they were able to give me a list of things that were safe: the rice, beans, and any enchilada dish that doesn’t have marinated meat.
When I arrived, I let our waiter know about my allergy and my concerns, and he was extremely helpful and willing to double check with the chefs. I ordered chicken enchiladas and had no reaction. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the positive experience.
