They were so nice about me telling them about my Celiac disease. The waitress was educated enough and referred back to her manager when she was unsure. The manager on duty came out and personally took my order and made my meal herself in the back to ensure no cross contamination occurred. This location has a customer for life.
I am newly diagnosed with gluten intolerance.
They do have a gluten menu. The beef is not gluten free though. However they do have an option for unmarinated chicken or shrimp.
They also have baked chips they will make for you instead of the regular chips offered. They are delicious.
The gluten free menu was sparse and did contain mostly meatless menu items, but the grilled shrimp rellenos were amazing. While gluten is merely an intolerance issue for me, I did notice that they are fairly forthcoming about possible cross contamination and request that you inform them of the severity of any/all food allergies.
I ate at Chuy's last night and was very disappointed. All their meat is filled with gluten so vegetarian fare is all you can have. Unless you eat shrimp which I do but not at many restaurants. Gluten free menu is small and not appealing at all. I had the veggie enchiladas and still had a reaction from cross contamination. I can't even give this place one star! Well, you can't post a review without at least one star so one star it gets.
The manager came out, was very knowledgeable, and was able to suggest and fix things not on the regular gluten free menu. Ask for the baked chips and 'boom-boom' sauce. Light and delicious. Wait staff was enthusiastic about accommodating and modifying for gf, too. A one-of-a-kind Tex-Mex restaurant where all the food is made from scratch. Watch one of the staff make tortillas right in front of the kitchen.
They were very knowledgable. The waiter brought out samples of the sauces that I could have. I was very pleased with my visit.
The staff was very helpful explaining what was gluten free. I went twice. The first time they said the chips were in a dedicated fryer but the second time, they said it was mixed. Seems like it changes from time to time. The corn tortillas are fine, so I had the chicken enchiladas without the queso on top (their queso contains flour). Instead, I added shredded cheese and extra tomatillo sauce. It was decent, but nothing special and there were so few gluten free options.
Almost everything on the menu contains gluten. Our server told us there is gluten containing seasoning in all of their meats. We were a group of 4, with 2 of us being gluten free. The only reason I gave them a 2 was because he was very gracious about our leaving after he had served us chips. We went to a different restaurant. I will not go back.
Has gluten free options. I order one enchilada with pulled chicken and boom boom (spicy queso) sauce, side salad with jalapeño ranch, and side of refried beans. Bring your own GF chips (theirs aren’t GF) or have them give you a couple corn tortillas to dip in free salsa for appetizer. Their queso isn’t GF but boom boom sauce is.
My husband and I had a great date at Chuy's. They were celiac-friendly and the server double-checked to make sure that the ingredients in my dish were gluten-free. She also let me know that the chefs did not change their gloves between prepping GF dishes so there could be cross-contamination. I usually have a negative response within 5-10 minutes of consuming gluten and I did not have a bad reaction at all after eating this meal. I'll definitely visit Chuy's again!
