Awesome experience at Jack’s! I have to eat gluten free for health reasons and I was extremely anxious about eating here due to how busy they were. When we got to the front of the line, I told the butcher I needed gluten free. He immediately took his gloves off, got a brand new cutting board, knife, and brisket from the smoker. He even grabbed a plate from the middle of the stack instead of the next one on top. My food came into contact with as few people as possible. The lady serving the sides changed gloves and handed me my tray over the counter instead of having it near the other food. I did not get sick and I felt like they were happy to help me.
Can't say enough good things. Awesome food, very friendly service, great location on Broadway. When they found out my wife had an allergy to gluten, they went out of their way to remake her plate with a different knife that has not cut the fresh bread loaves and potentially cross contaminated. But when I asked about gf sauces, they asked if we had told them up front of the allergy. We had simply asked for no bread. Alert and attentive, they offer as to remake her combo plate. Besides the attentive service, did I mention the bbq and the sides were great. I think I got the end of brisket so had chunks instead of slices. I prefer the slices, but it was still incredibly tender brisket. We only had a few hours in Nashville before a flight the next day. Definitely this was the one stop worth making.
Update: visited again on 9/27/19, was a bit nervous seeing a couple bad reviews since my first visit but I had same great experience as last year! Funny thing it was same worker who served me this time too... They were slammed, line out the door and down the street but he still handled my order with the same care. He cleaned the work station, washed his hands and new gloves, new gf cutting board brought out w new knife, all meat was pulled directly out of the smoker to ensure no risk of cross contamination. The turkey is perfect btw, pork shoulder was great too. I had green beans and apples which were also good. I highly recommend this place despite the lack of typical signs of safety for Celiacs lol. Worth noting am a HIGHLY reactive person so cross contamination is a big issue for me. I will be back every time I’m in Nashville! The staff was extremely knowledgeable and amazing! I told him I was gluten free and his first question was do you have celiac? Umm wow yes I do and that was a big shock to find such understanding in a joint like this! Don’t be scared off by the initial appearance of the line (I was) as soon as I said yes I have celiac he immediately changed gloves, got a new cutting board used only for meat ever, new knife etc! All of the meats are safe, there are a few safe sides (Altho the Mac n cheese is NOT gf as a previous review states) and all sauces are too. Our fav was the turkey and pork shoulder though, perfect!
When I said I was celiac, he got a new, clean cutting board from the back, changed his gloves and knives, and got new pieces of meat from the smoker. He then followed my plate all the way through to minimize any contamination. All meats and sauces are GF and a bunch of sides are too. SO GOOD!!!!!
Amazing place. Line out the door for incredible food and they take their time to change their gloves, clean the surfaces and bring a clean cutting board to cut the meat when telling them you have an allergy. Brisket, corn and potato salad were so good!!
They say all their meat is gluten free and the gluten free sides are labeled with stickers. However, they cut the bread on the same surface as the meat and near the sides, thus contaminating everything with crumbs. Not sure why this place gets such good reviews. Am I missing something?
I told the guy I had Celiac and he changed the cutting board, knife and his gloves. He said all the meats are gluten free and all the sides are noted on the board if they are gluten free. It has been 30 minutes from me eating and I did not have a reaction which means it is good!
I've never experienced such a great gluten free moment at a restaurant!! They immediately cleaned the cutting board, changed their gloves, got a clean cutting board, got new meat out of the warmer and pulled my sides directly from the back. Amazing!! Every single staff members heads turned and they went into a different mode as soon as they heard Celiac. I was in awe! Thank you for such an unbelievable experience!
Visited at peak lunchtime and yet they were scrupulous on changing gloves all down the serving line, cleaning surfaces and using different boards and knives and carving from fresh untouched joints - 37 in queue in front of me but only a 15 minute wait - and worth it delicious A d freshest salads we have had in USA - all sauces GF and can be bought to take away - see Photos
As others stated when we told them we were gluten free & had a celiac in the group, the staff changed gloves, pulled fresh meat (brisket & new rack of ribs) and a special clean cutting board. This during a very busy lunch rush. Staff even checked on us later to see how we liked our meal.
The staff was knowledgeable and changed gloves, got a new cutting board and a clean knife, AND pulled out a new wrapped pork shoulder for me, but I got sick not 10 minutes after eating my meal. I think cross contamination is just unavoidable with the sides. They are labeled gf or not, but it seems like sandwiches are their top service so as they hand trays down the line gluten hands are handling sides throughout the day. Also, I’m super sensitive, so it might be okay for those fine with cross contamination!
Staff was very knowledgeable about what was celiac friendly. The sides had markings next to them on what was safe. Changed gloves and new cutting board and got a new knife. The man Charles was very nice about it and had no issues about accommodating the needs.
Amazing! Same experience as others - new meat, new cutting board, new knife, changed gloves when I said I had Celiac. The man who was plating the meats even got my sides and double checked that my side choices were GF. We went twice while in town since the first visit was so great. Second time was just as good. I wish there was a place like this close to home!!! A+++
I went here because of the positive reviews and they did not disappoint!! As others have experienced, the staff asked if I had Celiac when I inquired about gluten in any of the meat. The place was PACKED with a line down the street. Even though they were slammed, the gentleman taking my order took his time to clean his work station, change his gloves, pull out a fresh cutting board and knife, and use a new piece of meat. He then ensured the rest of the staff were also aware of my Celiac and then they also changed their gloves and took special care of my plate. The meats were all GF, as were all the delicious sauces. They had several GF side items as well. I’d definitely go back!!!
I didn't even have to mention the word gluten when I got here. As soon as I said, 'Hey I have celiac.' the guy cutting the meat started changing his gloves, got a fresh cutting board from the back and cut everything from fresh stock. Super smooth, straight forward process, which is a nice change. Food was pretty good too.
They are able to accommodate celiac. They are knowledgeable about how to handle food and avoid cross contamination. They did pull mt order right out of the smoker. However, it's not the most flavorful bbq I have had. Maybe it was what I had. smoked chicken. But I give them an "A" for effort.
Staff is knowledgeable. I didn't mention gluten free, but asked instead if the chicken came with bread. He picked right up on it and asked if I had a gluten allergy. Changed his gloves, etc. to keep my food uncontaminated, then the other girls in the line steered me away from certain sides (mashed potatoes! ) without me asking. Food was good. I enjoyed the meal.
They put so much effort into offering excellent gluten free food, even gf Mac and Cheese! Why, why... why ruin it with having cornbread loaves cut and served on the meat cutting board? I’ve been here before without issue, but this time the server didn’t offer to change gloves or cutting board (they were really busy) and he was cutting cornbread with the same knife as meat, cross contaminating everything. As I said they were busy, so instead of slowing things down I just went with Mac and Cheese, Green Beans and Potato Salad... that were all delicious! I just wish they’d served the bread from somewhere else and it would be Celiac safe without issue!!
This is a restaurant that you order at the counter and you take the food to the table as it it already cooked and prepared. So it’s fast. They list all gluten free food. I had roasted chicken, potato salad & cucumber salad. It was all fine. Their original bbq sauce had a bit of tang which I liked. Staff was nice and I felt fine after eating. This is down and dirty food not gourmet. When at Ryman Auditorium, Vince Gill popped up on stage to give out an award of honor. He then said he was leaving to go back to his BBQ at Jack’s. I’m guessing being on Honky Tonk HWY (Broadway) it is a classic that gets you in and out so you can get back to hearing live music.
This place is delicious and they take allergies seriously. Ate here twice and both times they automatically changed their gloves, cutting boards and utensils. Loved the sausage, ribs and sides. This place is on the Main Street (Broadway) where all of the action is and the most popular place to eat. So lucky that they can accommodate gf. Line can be long but don’t worry as it goes fast. Amazing BBQ and highly recommend!
Fun little BBQ experience. Definitely nothing fancy but located right on broadway and worth the wait in line to order you food! All meats and sauces are GF and the menu board marked the GF side options. Portions were huge and delicious! Had the ribs and potato salad. Would go back!
I told the staff about my gluten free needs and they responded quickly and kindly to it even when there was a long line of people waiting for food. The chef got a new cutting board, new gloves, new knife and a new piece of meat to cut from. It was fantastic service plus the food was delicious! The smoked chicken was astounding. Absolutely would go to jacks bbq again!
As soon as I mentioned I have celiac they responded right away that they are all trained in allergen and gluten free needs. All the meats are gluten free and they brought out a separate cutting board, a clean knife, changed their gloves and got new plates for me. All of their BBQ sauces are gluten free too. I ate here twice and did not have any reactions. The food was great.
