I have been in Nashville for the weekend and I actually at here twice in one day lol. Once for lunch and then the second time right before they closed at midnight. Both times the staff was knowledgeable about celiac. All of the meats and sauces were gluten free. There are several sides that are also gluten free. The first time I ate there I was nervous because the buns and cornbread were so close to the meat. But when I told them I had celiac they wider down the counter, changed gloves, and brought out a clean plastic cutting board to cut my meat on. The sides (gluten free and those containing gluten) are very close together so the first time I did not eat any sides. The second time I got green beans and potato salad. Unfortunately my suspicion was correct and there was a macaroni noodle in my green beans so I didn’t eat them. I did try the potato salad. The first time I ate there I had no reaction. The second time I ate there I had a fairly small reaction to something. I would assume it was cross contamination with the utensils or with the side that I ate. Overall I would eat the bbq again I would just be very cautious of the side.
They changed gloves, got a clean cutting board, and pulled out a fresh brisket to cut from! They have a sign with the GF sides. It was delicious! All sauces are GF.
Great food & a spacious outdoor seating area. I had the brisket, apples and coleslaw, no reactions. They have a sticker on the glass that lists gluten free sides. All meats and sauces are gluten free. They changed their gloves and utensils when I mentioned the gluten allergy.
I had the single meat platter with ribs. They did go to the back to get my meat away from the usual cutting area but my sides were offered from the front warmers and the gluten items were awfully close to the other sides….gluteny macaroni pieces that had been dropped floating in the green beans so chose potato salad & cinnamon apples as they were the farthest away but still didn’t feel safe. It was busy so I didn’t ask for fresh, which in all fairness I should have. The ribs were “meh” and I was very nervous about the sides so let my hubby eat them. He said they were ok.
I had a very odd experience when eating at Jack’s following the Chris Stapleton concert on August 9th. Our group ordered and when it was my turn to place my order, I told them I have a gluten allergy. The man taking orders said I had to tell them down at the register. I thought that was odd but waited till we got down through the line. I told the person at the register who said I needed to order back at the first guy who was cutting the meats. I explained we were told to come down to him. The guy on the register yells down my selection and says for “celiac.” They ring up my selection along with the three people I was with and my friends go to sit while I wait. After about 5 or 6 customers pass by, the guy at the register says I think you need to go talk to him (the meat guy) because he doesn’t think he’s going to make my meal. I politely said I was told to order through him abs shouldn’t he speak to his coworker. He yells down the line again about my order and the two basically have a staring contest. At this point the man at the register tells me that I guess he isn’t going to prep my meal and he will refund the meal. At this point my friend who has paid by credit card was upstairs on the outside patio area. So I went up there to get the card. A few minutes later the man who had been working the register came up and gave me a cash refund and apologized, said he didn’t know what the problem was and there was no one for complain to as it was the manager who was the one who ignored my order. The oddest experience I have ever had at a restaurant. It was a busy time but to refuse to make my order is ridiculous. It would have been better to say we are too busy to change cutting boards, knives etc to make your order safely than to give me the run around like that!
This was great barbecue if you’re visiting Nashville, the sides were clearly marked and all the meat and sauces were gluten free! All the workers seemed really well trained and as soon as you say anything about a gluten allergy everyone in the line changes gloves and they get a new knife and cutting board from the back.
No, the cutting boards are RIGHT next to the bags of bread. All BBQ is prepared with a rub that has a ton of sugar in it. Far from Paleo friendly. This app has been falsely advertising restaurants for the last few years making a difficult situation even more difficult. This is very frustrating.
This place has the best BBQ I've had in years. All the meats are GF and several sides. I tried to be first in line when they opened but I didn't make it, two other families were there first. I apologized to the guy cutting meat and he assured me it's no problem and stripped his gloves and got a clean board and knife. He even had another employee open the meat cases he needed so as not to contaminate his gloves. The ladies doing sides were very helpful as well. I'd never hesitate to come back. A bit pricey but a 3 meat plate was more than enough for my husband and I. It was $65+tip for a 3 meat plate and 2 kids plates. But considering the cost of other restaurants nearby it's a deal.
This is a great place to eat and felt very safe! As others have said, as soon as I mentioned a gluten allergy he immediately changed his gloves. All meats and sauces are gluten free, and they have a list of the sides that are gluten free (plenty to choose from!). Plus it was delicious! I would highly recommend eating there!
So delicious and felt very safe. I followed what some of the other commenters said, and said “gluten free celiac.” The person preparing the meat and sandwiches immediately changed gloves, cutting boards and new meat. All done with kindness and great service despite the line behind me.
The staff member was so lovely and clearly trained on celiac safety. As soon as I said I’m gluten free, he got a clean cutting board, knife, and gloves and opened fresh meats that had not touched the glutened cutting board. All the meats and sauces are gf and there is a sign indicating what sides are gf - we got the brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken with sides of corn and stewed apples and the standard sauce as well as KC sweet and smoky and Texas hot and sweet. Everything was delicious and I didn’t have any gluten symptoms.
At Jack's BBQ, you must specify that you have celiac so they can take proper precautions. They changed gloves and used fresh meat from a clean board for me. All their sauces are gluten-free and available in individual packets (I recommend the sweet and smoky.) The ribs and brisket were incredibly tender and all meats are gluten-free. They clearly label gluten-free sides; the apples were great, the corn was good
This place is delicious and just like the other reviews, said I had Celiac (which I normally say Gluten Allergy) but instantly they removed their gloves, new ones, new meat pulled out, the whole nine yards. No CC to happen. All the sauces are GF and you can buy them!! Haven’t had BBQ in a few years and this made my trip. You have to visit!!!!!
Absolutely amazing BBQ joint on Broadway. I told the staff I had Celiac, and they said, “oh yea we got you what would you like?” I ordered the Brisket, and they put on new gloves, washed their hands, got a new cutting board, new knife, AND pulled fresh meat out. When my meal moved down the line, he told the guy who does the sides, and he changed his gloves as well. They clearly have a sign posted saying meats and sauces are gluten free. They also have a sign with a list of the gluten free sides. Highly recommend the potato salad and apples. Have gone a few times, and their practice stays the same. I found two very safe places in Nashville and this is one of them!
I don’t know how this place got so many 5 star reviews. Stated that I am celiac which means I have a gluten allergy. They did not change their gloves, dismissed me, and they did not listen to what I said. I asked for potatoe salad and the guy gave me mashed potatoes which is NOT labeled gluten free. Would not eat here again. It is not safe for a celiac.
This was amazing!! When I mentioned I was GF/DF. They didn't act annoyed or like I was a bother! ❤ They immediately changed their gloves and got a separate cutting board & new knife from the kitchen.
The sides were clearly marked. I choose the cucumber salad & cole slaw. Both tasted great Sauces are all GF. One is not dairy free. My protein choice was the brisket. I highly recommend!
Stopped for dinner and had a great experience. When ordering stated that I was gluten free with celiac and asked for a glove change. They got a new cutting board, knife and gloves to prepare the meat. New gloves for the sides. The food was delicious and the gluten free options were clearly marked.
I was really hopeful going in, based off of all of the reviews. Sadly, I was less than impressed. The employees were super friendly. He had no problem changing his cutting board, gloves and knife. So that was nice. However the food containers are right there with corn bread and their crumbs right next to them, or in them, which was concerning and had to ask for a clean one, as the first one had crumbs in it. They don’t get fresh side from the back. Overall, it was an average experience. I had minor reactions. I wouldn’t go back.
Excellent safety procedures given that cornbread crumbs are all over the wood countertop board where normal orders are prepped. Mentioned gluten "allergy" and they clearly have their routine down. Got a fresh large plastic cutting board, clean knife, clean gloves. The meats are kept in foil. There was a card at the sides station with gluten/"may"/GF categories listed out. Obvious things contain gluten (mac), mashed potatoes are "may contain," but mashed sweet potatoes were fine. All sauces are GF. This info is not clearly listed on the website but given their procedures and this knowledge I'd totally trust an online or food order with GF noted. The food is great and was rated as a top Nashville West BBQ spot by my gluten-eating family.
Asked them to change their gloves for celiac and they said “nope I need to do more than that”. He changed gloves, washed his hands, got a new cutting board, & got out a fresh brisket to ensure nothing was contaminated. He also did it all with a smile and never acted as if it was an inconvenience!
Accommodated us perfectly. Two of us are Celiac. All meats, rubs and sauce are GF. They pulled out clean cutting board and knife for us. Changed gloves and all. Owner Freida even came out to greet us!
