This is my go-to spot for safe burgers & breakfasts! When I was first diagnosed with celiac, I would go to a variety of places and order gf food, but would then get sick. I've always felt good after eating here. They use udis bread/buns and the mashed potatoes are the alternative to fries.
UPDATE February 2017. They have segregated their fryers so it is safe to have french fries. This is not true for all Silver Diners but this location has made the change. Thank you! Now if we could only get this chain to use better GF buns on their hamburgers.....
I've been to Silver Diner a number of times over the course of the past few years and they have never given me a bad meal, the food is good and they have had a gluten free menu for a few years now. The atmosphere is always good and the service has never been a problem. I always eat the fries although they insist there is a risk of cross contamination, never an issue tho. I recommend the bison burger, cheese fries, and chilli. They offer a specifically gluten free part of the menu but I've only have the ultimate waffle which was so-so at best in my opinion tl;dr - will go again. good atmosphere. eat a burger. the fries are dicey but good
They said they would substitute UDIs and make French toast and clean the grill prior to making it and that they had a designated GF toaster. When they brought out the FRench Toast it was clear to me it was not GF bread. It was much larger than the toast (which was the usual UDIs). They insisted it was but I was afraid to risk it. They did take it off the bill which I thought was nice.
Even though they clearly notate GF entrees on the menu, the waitstaff doesn't understand. I have been there many times and never had the food delivered correct the first attempt. Disappointed, especially for a place that prides themselves as allergen friendly.
I imagine this place is great if you have kids or if you really like sweet foods, but personally I don't have any kids and prefer savory foods. Their savory menu is pretty limited and pricey and the menu is difficult to decipher. I would only go here for dessert but not an actual meal as the food is just ok, but at least it is safe.
Amazing food and so many GF choices, including the kids menu. I had a question about one of their specialty burgers, and the manager came over to talk to me. One of the burger toppings was a breaded tomato - which has gluten. But then the manager said he could make a gluten free version with a fresh tomato and corn meal/egg. He not only went back to the kitchen and prepared it himself, but he also instructed the other cooks on how to substitute it too! Incredible experience and we will be back!!
We love Silver Diner! Quick, inexpensive, and family friendly! Many options for those with allergies or health conscious. My kiddos love the GF pancakes or the Triple Decker Club on GF bread. It's not often the get GF bread (not just a bun) at a restaurant.
Maybe it was a bad day for them, but the food wasn't very good and the service left a lot to be desired as well. Hopefully it's improved since the last time I was there. update 8/2016: coffee was terrible, good service, the gf pancakes and I did not get along. I've been sick all morning, sadly
Lots of options that are gf AND dairy free. some that are gf and VEGAN, which is what I am. That is VERY hard to find. Everything is clearly labeled on the menu, too, so you don't have to rely on asking an inexperienced waiter a million questions. And the food is consistently good. If you have multiple sensitivities, this is the best place around, hands down!!
Though I usually do low carb, the omelette so here are not GF! Apparently they add batter to them. But treated myself to tummy GF coconut/quinoa pancakes. One star off for adulterating the omelettes!
I am egg, dairy (cow), soy, gluten intolerant. Silver Diner is farm to fork offering locally sourced ingredients. I was so happy to find the diner (breakfast). I fully expected to eat only a bowl of fruit or salad as usual. The facility was spotless, The employees friendly and professional and patient with my requests.
I asked about a gluten free menu because prior to sitting hostess didn't know. Looked at menu one thing called out as GF asked my waitress she wasn't much more familiar. I am sensitive to gluten but cross contamination is okay no way I would eat here with my celiac daughter.
The menu is clearly marked GF for gluten free! I had the Mediterranean salad. It was good not reactions!
We came on a busy Sunday morning for brunch. With the line going outside the door, we only waited 15 min to be seated. Our Waiter "Biscuit Boy" was fabulous. His knowledge of the menu and how to accommodate gluten free was great. They have Udi's bread and buns. I was told that I could make anything that had bread and just substitute. I had gf French toast from the regular menu. My the waiter even asked if I was gluten sensitive or had celiac. He then wrote celiac on the order. We will definitely return
The food is ok and I didn't get sick so that's a plus. Unfortunately, the service is atrocious. A bottomless beverage means one cup of coffee or one glass of soda unless you are willing to get up and hunt somebody down in order to get a refill. We have been here twice, the first time was in Dec 2015, the second in April 2016, and both times we have had to ask someone to wait on us. We won't be back and I would advise going here only as a last resort.
This place was amazing! I've never left a review but for this place I will! I had the coconut french toast with Carmel sauce and it was incredible! My husband had the gf mango stir fry (it's vegan) but he added chicken... it was sweet and spicy; so good! Also they have great service, wine, gf desserts, and great service! We will be going back!
I've been here twice and have been disappointed both times. They label gluten free options, but have no idea what gluten is. I ordered a burger with a GF bun. They gave me a regular bun and when I asked for a GF bun, they just took the same patty and stuck it on the new bun. They had no idea what condiments were gluten free. I would not recommend.
