I love this place even more than I did before. Walked in for a halloumi sandwich and had the pleasure of meeting Austin, one of the business owners. I asked about what could be made for my gluten free son. Being a chef himself, he was so incredibly knowledgeable about celiac restrictions and advised that most anything on the menu could be prepared gf by their staff. They have implemented extra precautions to their preparation that enable them to do so, including removing gluten from their sauces and marinades, without sacrificing flavor, adding a separate prep station, shipping in special gf buns for sandwiches (after lots of taste testing to find the perfect bun) and dedicating a fryer for fries only to prevent cross contamination. Talk about nirvana! This is the next best thing to a dedicated gf restaurant. They even pack gf meals separately to go from those containing gluten. I’m beyond impressed.
My son chose the chicken club sandwich with fries. He dove in when I arrived home and the way he was wolfing it down said it all. He said the bun was delicious, and good gf bread is tough to find, so his approval says a lot! He loved the entire meal and said he wants to go back again to try more options. The real test came in the hours following the meal when he didn’t have a gluten reaction. We now know this is truly a safe place for him to dine.
The staff members are always so nice and more than willing to accommodate, making the service exceptional. Highly recommend this place to anyone, but thrilled to add it as a great place for those with dietary restrictions as well.
They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It’s a casual place. Parking can be a bit of a drag during peak dining times, but not impossible. The food and service are worth a couple parking laps.
Wonderful! I ordered the Greek chicken salad and told the cashier I have a serious gluten allergy so no pita chips. She said okay and then I went to my table wondering if I should have made more of a request. Five minutes later a staff member came to my table and explained that they were making my dish in the back kitchen to avoid cross contamination so it would be a little while. No problem of course! I was thrilled by this šš»
I asked what was gluten free. She said nothing is safe because of cross contamination. After staring at each other for a minute she turned and asked someone what was gluten free. I ended up getting the chicken Caesar salad without croutons. It had too little dressing and wasn’t very good but I was there with a workgroup so didn’t want to make waves. I choked it down. Won’t be going back.
I have celiac and have eaten here multiple times with no problems. I use a tester to test for gluten content. Tonight for the first time ever all three dishes tested positive for gluten (at least 20 ppm). We ordered the lemon thyme chicken breast (made in the microwave instead of the grill), garlic fries (was told they'd be made in the dedicated fryer) and the classic steak sandwhich on a gluten free bun).
I order the chicken and garlic fries every time I go.
I'm not writing this place off because it has tested gluten free dozens of other times I've been there. The place was jam packed busy and I did take out. There were other take out orders waiting as well. I believe it's highly likely the message about celiac and no gluten may not have made it to the person preparing the food or their usual safe practices weren't followed.
Or perhaps for the fries at least, I was given someone else's order (i noticed most people were ordering garlic fries).
My advice is to go during slower times and watch to be sure safe practices are flowed.
I’ve eaten at least a dozen times at the Fresno location. Haven’t had a problem until yesterday. Within 30 minutes I was bloated, and very sick that night. In times past the server was very knowledgeable, yesterday they didn’t really seem to know what items had gluten. I should’ve known better.
Overall the kitchen is very knowledgeable of what is gluten free and can help steer you in the right direction. I have celiac disease and usually get the Impossible taco salad. The dressing is gluten free and staff has told me the tortilla strips are gluten free/don’t share a fryer and I’ve never had any issues. I’ve also gotten the salmon and had no issues either. Highly recommend this spot.
We’ve eaten here so many times and never an issue. This has always been our go to for GF sandwiches and fries. Normally my wife who has celiac receives her sandwich after minutes of me already having mine. Today both sandwiches came out at the same time. It is obviously our fault for not questioning the server when that happened. Within 30 minutes of eating, she was bloated and by evening she was sicker than a dog. I would just confirm when you order and when you receive your food that it was gluten-free. It may not hurt to also ask for a manager to make sure that it’s done right.
My family gets takeout from Jacks every few months. They won’t guarantee any food is gluten free, but I (celiac) have no problem with the grilled meats and build-your-own-salad without dressing. My Nima sensor detected gluten in the side dishes but the chicken, salmon and beef were “safe”.
Cross contamination. They do have a gf menu and a dedicated fryer but I watched them put a steak down to grill right where gluten previously was … also found a small crouton in my salad before I started eating it.
I visited Jack’s for the first time this week with a small group (I am the only celiac). I had a great lunch. They have a delicious gf sandwich roll, a dedicated fryer for the French fries. I was asked when I placed my order if my gf requirements were due to an allergy. My friends were served their meals, it took another 10 minutes for me to get my meal, when I inquired, I found that they replace the cutting boards, utensils, and gloves to make my meal. I was extremely pleased that they took care to do this and the staff I spoke with seemed well versed in what was safe for me to eat.
They have Udi's bread for your sandwich of any choosing, plus when I told them I was gluten free, the employee changed out all the equipment so as not to cause cross contamination. Very pleasant experience.
This location is hit or miss. We have placed online orders and then arrived for pick up and had them tell us they weren’t comfortable filling the order because of cross-contamination risks. Other times they have been more helpful. We have had a much better experience at the Jack’s in Roseville at the Fountains. They have a dedicated fryer so you can get fries there, which isn’t offered in Folsom. They also can heat up their gluten free rolls separately from other items in Roseville. In Folsom we always get cold crumbly rolls. Salads are probably the safest and all of their dressings are gluten free.
Whatever you do do not eat here ever! The girls that work here are the rudest snottiest people you would ever experience. I can’t believe that anyone would pay to be treated so poorly. Again do not ever eat here. The food here is OK but the prices are absolutely ridiculous but the most important thing is that the girls at work here treat you like you’re a piece of garbage.
Great food. Staff were super knowledgeable and helpful. I had the turkey plate with mixed veggies in basalmic the turkey was juicy and delicious. The mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce were so good I thought they had stolen my recipes. š
Really happy to find this place. Turkey is my favorite and I walked in to see a whole roasted turkey in the kitchen. The gluten free sandwich roll was soft and fresh tasting, the turkey was thick sliced breast. When I asked about fries they said they had a dedicated fryer for gluten free. Yay!
They had a gluten free menu that also told you how to make certain items gluten free by substitution. Would use a separate work space as well.
The staff is great! If it your first time ordering an item gluten here they are very helpful and can look up if any of the ingredients are containing gluten. I have only tried a few of their salads myself. Never gotten sick after.
Awesome Turkey sandwich with GF bun. So good
love this place, great salads. their fries are amazing but I'm not sure if it's dedicated gf frier so ask. I don't get sick eating here but I'm not celiac.
Great salads. Didn’t try sandwiches. It has great options for mixed nutrients and while I’m not celiac, it seemed pretty safe.
This chain advertises gluten free sandwiches, but after my wife ordered (and paid for) a sandwich on a gluten free roll, and explained that she had celiac disease, so it needed to to be prepared in a clean environment, the sandwich maker said under her breathe that she wouldn't make the sandwich, My salad came, and I finally went ahead and ate it, but my wife's sandwich was never made, They ultimately refunded her money rather than clean a knife and a section of the table and change gloves. We're not going back! Other locations are fine.
They have a Gluten free menu that highlights the items to omit from the non-gluten free menu. All of their sauces contain gluten. I had the roasted turkey and it was good but would have been better with sauce. All of my sides French fries and mashed potatoes came to me cold. Many other patrons also complained about cold sides. The Strawberry Lemonade was really good!
My family just Loves this restaurant. Fantastic build-your-own salads, with great GF balsamic vinagrette. We get the family fries too, which have no gluten but are fried in oil with other things that do, so if you're super-sensitive you may want to skip the fries. I'm quite sensitive, and I'm almost always fine. Our friends who accompany us love the sandwiches. The staff is really helpful and friendly. Love this place -- it's one of our regular go-to's in Davis.
Salads are awesome but if you are extremely hungry, don't expect much bang for your bucks here. For protein, only their chicken and turkey are quoted to be gluten free but not their award winning tri tip. And you only get a mere 3 oz of meat if you are lucky and sides are additional.
Has gluten free menu choices
