I eat here about once a month and it is by far my favorite place to eat out. GF items are clearly marked, and most of the staff remembers me and my dietary restriction now. Definitely make sure to double check menu items for their label since it’s a big menu. I highly recommend the vegetable bibimbap, the mochi ice cream and pretty much any meat. The only non gf sauce is the teriyaki. Everything is so delicious.
Surprisingly very safe restaurant!! Almost all the marinades are gluten free and they have several signs about how they did that recently so everyone could enjoy the food. A good chunk of appetizers are also GF. Menu is very clearly labeled. I felt completely fine after eating here and will be back!
I have been to several Korean BBQ restaurants and this one was disappointing. To start, the server was training a new server and both were very new and not well informed. The “experienced” server did not know the menu well and appeared very confused. The server did not have any knowledge about gluten free safety or foods. We went with 5 people and went with the 4 person meal. This does not include rice or vegetables which is a first at a BBQ. The salad and kimchi were good which are gluten free. I was afraid to eat here. Meat was thin cut and small. Over priced for what you get. This is not your traditional Korean BBQ. We will not go back.
Menu is clearly labeled with what is gluten free. Almost every marinade/meat is gluten free which is great. A lot of the appetizers aren't gf, but if you're mostly going for the meats then it isn't a big deal. It's nice that they can change out the grates easily if something does get cross contaminated (but only a risk if you're ordering non gf marinades as well). Waiter was knowledgeable and knew which things were gf. I felt safe eating here.
This was incredible. Ate here a few months ago and only now just remembering to post about it- but what a TREAT. Server was super knowledgeable and reiterated many things I could and couldn’t eat every time she put something on the table for my group.
She did so well until we got to the smores section of the evening where she proclaimed she wasn’t sure if those were safe đ I was like yeah no definitely not.
But alas, even her questionable knowledge proved 95% impressive
had the best experience at Japanese BBQ! The menu is very clearly labelled with everything that is gluten-free, their sauces are house made and are also gluten-free and labelled. I would say 95% of the meat is gluten-free. I don't eat beef or pork but they had lots of chicken and shrimp options, the rice is gluten-free, as well as a ton of appetizers! It was an overall awesome experience. The vodka is absolute vodka and is not gluten-free so do you not have any mixed drinks with vodka in it but their alcoholic beverages are fantastic!! I would recommend the lychee Mojito to anyone!
Service is wonderful and most items on the menu are marked gluten-free! I was wonderfully surprised by this because I didn't not want to give up one of my favorite go-to spots! Even their dipping sauces are all gluten-free. Service is wonderful and very helpful! Definitely ask the manager and let them know how severe your allergy is; I'm not as sensitive as others so always ask the establishment!
I had a surprisingly nice meal tonight with my family! I was a little apprehensive, but they all ordered some appetizers that had gluten, we got a couple gluten free and I served myself first. After appetizers they all got new chopsticks and we shared meats and veggies that were gluten free so everything felt pretty safe! It was delicious, just a lot of work to figure out the grill!
Japanese style BBQ with a grated grill over flames. Keep GF items to a specific section of the grill or keep grill gluten free. Menu is clearly marked and the staff were relatively knowledgable. Since you cook your own food there isn't as big of a risk of CC. ALL sauces available at the table were GF which was super exciting! Their premium sauce on the menu is also safe for us. They also had GF & Vegan Bibimbap and mochi!! Yay!
I’ve just eaten at this location for the second time. The experience is amazing. All of their sauces and marinade are gluten-free (except teriyaki) which makes virtually everything accessible. The menu is very clearly marked and the servers are knowledgeable. This is a fun experience, the food is great, and it is very safe for a celiac.
Participating in a Japanese barbecue was great fun for my GF daughter who rarely gets this opportunity. The menu was clearly marked and the staff absolutely knew what to do to keep her safe! (Thank you, Ace for going above and beyond!) Most of the sauces and marinades are gluten-free. We started out with an appetizer of shishito peppers in a Yuzu sauce. Then we cooked our meat on the burner. We had beef sirloin, Kalbi, garlic shrimp, and pork. All were delicious. Lots of gf options. My daughter had such a great time getting to participate in something that she usually has to sit out. Go during happy hour and you’ll get a really great deal!
I really enjoyed the food and my experience here! My waitress immediately asked my table about allergies after we were seated. Almost the entire menu is gluten free (including sauces), so it was easy to navigate. My family and I did a group option, so we just had to be conscious of the 1 item that contained gluten and only grilled it on a separate grill from mine. My server couldn’t confirm whether or not the mochi ice cream is gluten free, so she brought me green tea ice cream. They were very accommodating and answered all of my questions.
I was hesitant to do the all-you-can-eat option because there’s usually not enough GF stuff—I was happily proven wrong! Also, the other Gyu-Kaku locations have iffy reviews. I enjoyed my meal and did not get sick. They advertise gluten free sauces, which is a great contrast to the plain meats at any Korean bbq places around. My crew was happy to start with only gluten free items on the grill and save the non-gf stuff for when I was full or needed a break. We kept tongs separate and all was good. A couple appetizers are not gluten free, but I ate plenty. Bonus, the grilling area at your table is sunken (like a Solo Stove) so you don’t leave smelling as much like meat as you normally would. Our server was awesome, knowledgeable, and willing to find answers to questions if they weren’t obvious. The green tea ice cream was gluten free so obviously I had to get that too. Tasted better than i was expecting (Same vibes as lavender ice cream). Overall, would definitely recommend. Need a reservation though!
Edited Nov 2024 to remove a heart for safety because last time I went and sat down, they served me a plate that had crumbs on it; and delivered wrong items to me (fortunate I knew what they were, but I did have to question everything the rest of the meal).
Absolutely fantastic experience. Menu clearly marked, staff knowledgeable- and willing to ask the kitchen if unsure about anything. My dad and I shared the Meat Lover's course, and my mom got the Miso Butter Salmon (I tried it, it was yummy) with a side of zucchini. The quality of all the food was outstanding, and everything I ate was absolutely delicious. All the BBQ items in the Meat Lover's course are gf (and so incredibly tasty), the dessert is s'mores so the graham crackers are a no go- but the chocolate and marshmallow are both okay to eat. The starters in the meat lovers course are mostly safe- salad, miso soup, rice, edamame are all safe and delicious, and if you request the gyu sushi to be gf then they'll leave the soy sauce off (or on the side in a bowl for non gf family members to still enjoy). So glad I asked if that one could be gf because it was deLICIOUS. only starter in the meat lover's course that can't be gf is the Japanese chicken karaage, as it is fried chicken. I got green tea and strawberry (I think? Might've been raspberry) mochi for dessert, it was tasty- but the real highlight of the meal was the meat. 10/10 will be returning again!!! ...on very special occasions as it is expensive, but totally worth it!
Really good variety of options. All the marinades except one are GF. Waitress Charise was super informed and diligent about everything to do with the allergy. No substitutions allowed on the pre-planned courses but she made an exception and substituted ice cream for the s’mores for dessert (I didn’t even ask). Food was pretty good, nothing extraordinary but it was a fun experience and nice to have so many safe options. Btw— they told me they steam the edamame in the same water as the dumplings therefore not safe for celiacs, be careful. And I was able to eat the sushi (not marked as GF)- waitress clarified it’s just the wasabi on the side that has gluten.
I’ve had no issue with eating here the last 4 times I went. I let the host and waiter know of my allergy and the single serve menu has whether or not an item is gluten free. You will need to use it as a reference when ordering from the all you can eat menu. The only sauce we cannot consume is teriyaki, so be careful of meats with that or anything labeled as spicy.
Lots of options, knowledgeable staff, and great food. We did a course for the table and we were able to replace the one non-gluten free side with more meat instead. Most cocktails had sake (that wasn’t gluten free) and I was even able to replace the sake with gluten free vodka instead!
Amazing experience! We did the premium all-you-can-eat. Table sauces are all gluten-free. Waiter checked with the kitchen to make sure each item we asked for off the menu was actually confirmed gluten free (no spicy edamame for me, but the garlic ones were fantastic). High quality fresh food, fantastic drinks, great environment and vibes. Ate a variety and didn’t get sick (symptomatic celiac) so we will definitely be going back!
Great spot. The menu is marked and the dipping sauces are all GF as well as many of the marinades but the servers don’t always know offhand what is or is not GF and will refer you back to the menu. They bring things out quickly and you cook them at the table. I avoid some of the sides that seem like they could be riskier for CC, but have always felt safe with meats, grilled veggies, rice and mochi ice cream!
After searching endlessly for a J/K BBQ place in the DMV, we came across Gyu Kaku and it was well worth our endless search! The menu is labeled and the staff were highly aware of gluten free, which sauces/marinades were safe and which were not. We got the package for four people and only one of the 8 or so meats were not GF, so we cooked that one last with no problem. The sides were divine and they even had two dessert options that were GF, so I got some seasonal mochi. The experience is a bit pricy, but well worth it to feel safe and enjoy something new!
Such a fun experience! We were informed that all meats and their marinades are gluten free and the sauces at the table are as well. The menu is marked with a ton of gluten free options!
We had the value dinner with 6-7 meats, veggies, soup and salad. The food was delicious and I didn’t have a reaction. Highly recommend going!
This meal was amazing. Gluten free is marked on main menu. All the marinade for the meat is gluten free except the teriyaki. Some of the marinated veggies are not gluten free so pay close attention. I remember not being able to have the “spicy addicting cucumbers” so avoid that. Had GF ice cream for dessert.
Had a great time. It’s fun to cook your own food, and there are many options to choose from. All sauces on the table are gf and certain marinades are gf. Only thing was slow service and only one grill per table so gf has to cook food first, but overall a good experience. My waitress also made sure to communicate with the chef to ensure no cross contamination. Didn’t get sick and food was delicious!
This was one of my favorite restaurants before diagnosis and I'm so happy that it's almost all naturally gluten free. All sauces on the table are gluten free and iirc only one of many marinade flavors has gluten, so it's easily avoided. Order your meats and vegetables and cook them right on the table. The kids meal is a great value and my kids have a blast here, though you should ask for the chicken plain because default is the one random gluten marinade.
Tip: the weekday lunch meal deal is the best value! Also look for "happy hour" times for cheaper prices.
Excellent food and super fun! Can't recommend it enough.
Menu includes many gf options so easy to find a good and filling meal. Server was gracious when I mentioned celiac and said she would send over her manager. He came and held the menu in front of me pointing to the gf symbol and that was about it. The food came out very quickly from many different servers and no one distinguished what was gf and what wasn’t. So I had to remember what the menu said since others in my party ordered glutenous foods. So the experience could have been better and safer if everything we ordered was gf.
Japanese BBQ place, has a ton of GF options! (All labelled on their menu). They make their own sauces, which are all gluten free. We ordered the “Value Course” for 2 people, only one of the items wasn’t gluten free (Sukiyaki Kalbi) so they exchanged it for the sirloin. You cook the meat on your table, the grills were all very clean and they even brought a clean new grill half way through the meal so you don’t get burned pieces. I felt confident that they were safe, most knew what Celiac was (except one person who asked if I had my epipen with me đ€ŠđŒâ) but either way, I would definitely go again!
Very good experience. The staff is aware of foodallergies. On the menu you can see which items are glute free. Also good for people with extra food allergie beside gluten ( for example dairy).
But there is only one grill per group. To avoid cross contamination everyone shoud chose glutenfree options!
Great experience here. Must make reservation. The first question staff ask before taking orders is if you have an allergy. They are very knowledgeable of gluten allergy and items on menu will be marked . Usually I go to bbq spots and can only order meat plain, because majority of the sauces contain wheat. But this restaurant’s sauce and marinades are almost all gluten free. So it was nice to try different marinades instead of just salt and pepper. A side note- the grilling tables I saw and sat at could hold about 4 people, but had a relatively small grill in the center. It’s perfect for 2 people but anymore and you won’t be able to cook fast enough for everyone. Especially if you opted for the all you can eat, there’s a 90 minute time limit. Overall great staff, flavors and good quality meat. An AMAZING spot for gluten free people.
One of my favourite spots! All of their sauces and marinades (apart from the teriyaki marinade) are gluten free and their menu is very clearly labelled. I let them know I have celiac and they took good care of me. I ordered the prime kalbi short rib, premium sirloin, scallops, broccoli, and plain rice. Love this spot and highly recommend. Definitely always let them know about your allergies/celiac so they can avoid cross contamination.
Seriously fantastic! Food was amazing, got the premium dipping sauce and spicy miso butter with a bunch of meats. Service was outstanding. I cannot recommend enough. Most of the menu is safe, server asked about my allergies of which I have quite a few. They accommodated with a smile.
We explicitly told the server of my celiac gluten allergy and he assured me that all the sauces and marinades were gluten free. He then brought soup and salad to the table, which I proceeded to eat, and thought to double check. The manger came over and said that the soup, salad and rice dish I ordered were not gluten free! Apparently we had a “newer” server. Ask for the manager next time you go there to make sure! Other than that, the gluten free food was tasty but unfortunately I got sick.
Staff is knowledgeable/can walk you through the process. Immediately asked the table if there were any allergies. Entire menu is clearly marked with GF options. All bbq sauces are delicious and gluten free. Plenty of options and 100% safe/clean if everyone in your group orders gluten free items for the grill
We had a wonderful meal at Gyu-Kaku. Highly recommended!
It’s a grill-your-own type restaurant, and they are very celiac and allergy aware. Almost all of their sauces and marinades are gluten free, and everything is clearly labeled on the menu. Most of the menu is gluten free.
The staff were very knowledgeable, and there was no trouble making modifications. We were also with someone who had a shrimp allergy. They asked questions such as whether cc/touching was okay. They also had no trouble modifying one of the set combos, and made good suggestions for what to switch to instead.
The food was excellent! A really delicious meal. We will definitely be back!
Tons of GF options and amazing service! I had the skirt steak and it was unbelievably good with the miso sauce. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed dinner here. All their sauces are made gluten free. Their gluten free items were clearly marked on the menu and I found there was a huge amount of items I could eat. I’m asymptomatic celiac so I’m cautious but in a setting like this I feel I can be more care free. I still feel symptomatic celiacs could enjoy a meal here but just may have to be a little more careful and ensure you let the waiter know that you have an allergy. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Great Japanese BBQ. The sauces are all GF on the meats and items are labeled in the menu. You cook at your table therefore less risk of cross contamination.
Dommage ://
Went here for a pre wedding event. The menu is already marked gluten free. All the sauces and marinades are gluten-free except the Teriyaki (this is noted on the outdoor sign before enterering)
Spring rolls, dumplings, seaweed salad and a few other things are not safe to eat.
The staff was very happy to answer any and all questions and point it out on the menu.
Just make sure whoever you cook with are on the same level because you will share a cooker thing.
This was AMAZING!!!! The staff was super knowledgeable about what was/wasn't gluten free. The options were vast, very few things were on the "do not eat" list. The sauces were good, and everything was clearly marked on the menu. The good was SO GOOD!!! For sure will have to go back!
Best grill for people with celiacs! All table sauces and marinades are gf, like kbbq but better!
Nearly all meats were gluten free and some of the sides/starters. You cook the meat yourself on a BBQ at the table so any cross contamination is on you. The issue I had was that the gf option are marked on the menu so I had to keep referring back to the menu to order but to be honest it really wasn’t a big deal.
Celiac approved for their GF items. Do your own diligence with all the questions. We love their GF items, meats without marinade, shio cabbage, miso soup, shio cucumber. Their sauces on the table are GF but we confirm every time just in case there is a change. Their app has points that are easy to collect/redeem for free plates. Highly recommend.
We had the Japanese barbecue for 6 people including various kinds of meat, vegetables and shrimp as well as starters (edamame, miso soup and a very tasty salad) and bibimbap rice as a side dish. The only things I couldn't eat were the gyoza, a beef nigiri and the dessert. The staff were very knowledgeable and the sauces on the table are all gluten free.
Pleasantly surprised to find this chain bbq restaurant offering GF Japanese bbq meats, veggies, and Korean rice bowls. They even have their GF bottled marinades/sauces for sale. Staff was knowledgeable and willing to double check with the kitchen to make sure things were handled correctly. Will visit again!
I was really looking forward to trying this new restaurant out with my family, as I had heard great reviews on GF options. Unfortunately, the day after we ate there, I felt symptoms of cross-contamination. Normally I feel symptoms for a short time but this time around I did not feel well for a few days after eating there.
They have many GF options but I am thinking the shared grill was the issue. Be weary!
