The Butter Chicken entree is delicious and one of the only celiac safe items on the menu. They do not have a dedicated fryer, so all of the items marked “GF” are not actually GF. They do have a GF Cheesecake with blueberry compote, which is delicious. This restaurant is located adjacent to the Rosedale on Robson hotel in Yaletown, so very convenient for hotel guests.
Told server I was gluten free, he told me what items were gluten free, Ordered the ACE burger, Caesar salad, and mashed potatoes (you get 2 sides) when my order came and I was part way finished , I noticed there was a French fry on my plate, I looked closer and you could see that there was many fry crumbs on the plate. Seems like they forgot that it was gluten free and wiped the fries off. I told the server that this was quite serious for some people, that I would likely be ok, but the kitchen needs to know that much gluten could hospitalize some celiacs and they need to be more aware. I am unsure if he told the kitchen or not.
They always take GF seriously. Have been going here for years. This last visit they had a new Thai curry dish on their summer menu and the waitress brought out an ingredient list that said the cashews may have gluten but that they could make it without them and I would be good. It was delicious and did not cause any issues. The food doesn't come marked but they do announce "gluten free" as they put the dish down. Love going here!
I ate there this past weekend, I ordered a handheld on a gluten free bun because I haven’t had it in a while and the waitress even typed it in before taking the rest of the table’s order to make sure “she wouldn’t forget.” Well after I ate half of my meal I got anxiety because it tasted too good and asked again if it was gf. The waitress informed me that “it is not, I’m sorry I am hungover. I can comp your meal and have it remade gf.” I will not consider eating there anymore, one more restaurant off my list :(
I am a symptomatic Celiac, and we had a gift card that needed to be used.
We (3 people, I am the only celiac) ordered burgers/sandwiches.
Celiac (burger, GF Bun, mashed potatoes (no gravy etc)
Second burger , onion rings, poutine
Nashville chicken sandwich , fries and onion rings.
Food quality was good, nothing wrong with it.
I explained I was celiac with a gluten allergy, talked about CC for the kitchen, and confirmed the MP with no gravy were ok.
Food arrives, they put the regular burger with the mashed potatoes , and the GF burger with the poutine/onion rings.
When I kindly explained that I could not just switch the burgers due to my allergy they were good and whisked it away to remake - I was assured that the sides would be new and the burger would be remade as well.
Arrived correctly the second time and despite my worries , I did not react and experienced no glutening symptoms.
Review - you can eat there but be diligent about ordering with clear communication and ensure that the order is correct before consuming. The staff was very good and swiftly had it corrected.
Not sure how often I would eat here (again we were using a GC) but they do have options available.
Went there 2 nights in a row for a work trip and the experience depends on the server. GF options are clearly noted on the menu and one of the server's brother is celiac, so she knew what was GF and what wasn't. They were able to bake wings for GF, she checked which flavors could be GF and which ones were dairy free and she even checked that the alcohol in my drink was GF.
Definitely got a regular bun, even though we sent it back and double checked. They swore up and down it was gluten free. It certainly wasn't! Will not be going back.
I had a GF burger here last week, and the bun was so good that I had to get my husband to try it to make sure it was GF. He could tell it was GF, but I really couldn’t because it DIDN’T FALL APART! I didn’t have any symptoms of gluten exposure, so I’ll go back there again for sure.
I ate here and got sick. I ordered a burger and was told they are making it off the line to avoid cross contamination. The manager delivered it and assured me it was GF. My husband said “looks too good to be gluten free” so we asked them again before eating it , they assured me it was gluten free. Half way through the burger I got sick and I got very sick that lasted about a week. I had the exact same meal at another location and never got sick, but I couldn’t remember what the bun looked like. I back tracked all my meals (and I made them all myself except this one)…. found out they served me the wrong bun. They served me their regular bun instead of the gluten free bun.
My main place to go is now Original Joe’s and they seem to really understand celiac. I always order the California Cobb Salad and sub to the Dijon Vinegarette as it’s gf and the usual blue cheese balsamic is not. It’s so tasty and filling. My order is always clearly labeled that it’s for a “gluten allergy” for take out which I appreciate and the staff are always so friendly.
This was my first dining experience as a celiac. The food was pretty decent, however the GF menu options were depressing and too few. Most of these places only do the bare minimum to get our business and this is one of them. It wouldn't be at all difficult to open up much more of the menu
This location will ensure that your food is prepared in a separate gluten free area so there’s no chance of cross contamination. The staff/management are very helpful and there are plenty of gluten free options
OJ’s was originally one of the safest places for a gluten free meal and the sides were great. Unfortunately the staff at several locations were less than reassuring and the manager too busy to bring meal out separately. I have definitely gotten sick although not full out reaction so.... I would like to give them another go because as stated they were at one time very careful and could handle our large family gatherings. It’s been 2 years so management and staff may have improved
I ordered the salmon sandwich on a GF bun for delivery and it was literally the worst gluten free bun I’ve ever had. It seemed like it was old and past date. It was so stale and hard that I had trouble biting into it. The salmon and the sides were good, and I didn’t have a reaction to the food, but if that’s what they mean by a gf sandwich, I’ll pass.
