We came in around 9:00 pm and ordered and waited for 40 minutes for our food, went up to check on order and said they were waiting on the fries. A few minutes later an employee came out and asked if it was a preference or an allergy. Few minutes later the manager came out to tell us that they had someone new in the kitchen and they combined all of the food in the fryer so they were remaking our food and it would another 10 minutes and gave us a card for a free entrée for another visit. We then checked our food before leaving and it was not correct. So we had to go back up to the counter and get what was left off of our sandwiches. At this point the manager compted our entire meal.
Watch out - their sweets are currently not gluten free, due to supply chain issues. Manager was very apologetic about the situation. Gluten free bun and they make every effort to make the sandwich as safe as possible but currently cannot guarantee that their sweet potato fries are safe. 😕
Be extra careful with the sweet potato fries! They are “gluten friendly” not “gluten free”. I didn’t listen to the cashier close enough and now I’ve been sick for 3 days. She said they were cooked in separate oil but, apparently something else happened.
Food was delicious but cross contaminated.
Being celiac it isn’t very often I get to eat a burger and, while it’s something I regularly crave, with most places it’s just not even worth taking the risk. From Grubs online experience, to inside the restaurant, I felt totally confident. They have an allergen specific menu and all the staff were able to instruct confidentially about all allergies, not just celiac - the manger even came and checked in everything with me though all the staff were perfectly helpful and efficient. They have a gluten free dedicated fryer and although they don’t offer regular fries in it, they do amazing sweet potato waffle fries. They didn’t want to make promises, but I took a chance and had literally zero reaction. I also ordered their Front Porch burger with cheese, with a gluten free bun. Usually I skip the bun altogether but for once I thought I’d give it a try and I AM SO GLAD I DID! Literally the best gluten free bun I’ve ever had - soft and squashy, just like a burger bun should be! Admittedly, it’s a long time since I’ve eaten a regular bun, but I was hard pressed to tell the difference! (They tell me they use Ancient Grains gluten free buns). The burger itself was also amazing - tasty and juicy. My husband had a regular burger as he has no gluten issues and he said it was one of the better burgers he’s had and (lucky him!) he gets to eat them a lot! It’s 2 hours later and I have had zero reaction at all. This is not normal for me, even with some of my best restaurant experiences I usually have at least a tiny reaction. Seriously one of the best celiac restaurant experiences I’ve had, and I honestly could almost cry about the fact I have finally found a place I can get a great burger! EAT HERE!!!
Manager checked all of our sauces for gluten on the burgers. I got the bacon lovers burger gluten free bun (they are a little darker in color than the glutenous buns) the secret sauce that comes on it is gluten free we checked all ingredients. Fiancé got the waugu burger. The sauce that comes with it is made with gluten free Worcestershire sauce, no changes to sauce were necessary. The cooks do glove change and clean surfaces for gluten free food prep. Sweet potato fries are made in a dedicated gluten free fryer, they only say ‘gluten friendly’ because they told us there is always a small chance a French fry from the normal fryer can hop into it. But they showed us and it’s a three fryer system - sweet potatoes then to the right is French fries then to the right of that is fried chicken and other fried glutenous items. So even if a fry does get in it seemed like a very very small chance of cross contamination. Still it’s their liability. Seemed reasonably safe to us and other celiac reviewers said fries were good. They were great, neither of us got sick. Cocktails and ciders available too. Fiancé got smoked old fashioned I got an angry orchard. Chive TV playing on bar screens. Sports bar/chipotle feeing atmosphere. Both of us are celiac, neither of us got sick!
I am GF/DF. I ate the California Chicken Sandwich & side salad with balsamic vinaigrette both w/o cheese. The manager on duty, Jessica, was awesome! She heard me ordering, notified the kitchen of my allergies then came to talk with me. She advised me that if sensitive the sweet potato fries are only gluten friendly and recommended the side salad. She then proceeded to prepare all my food herself using fresh ingredients. I fully appreciated her helpfulness.
Gluten free burgers and gluten friendly sweet potato fries. They have a dedicated fryer, but informed me about the possible risk of cross contamination.
Friendly, well educated staff that was very helpful with my questions. Amazing gluten free burgers and sweet potato fries! I’m extremely sensitive to gluten and had no problems. We will definitely be back!
It's a good gourmet burger place. An operating partner, Laura, was working the register when we arrived. She was very good and patient explaining their menu. She understood Celiac needs and explained their processes and what was safe and what wasn't. She explained what would happen in an "adverse" situation of cross contamination. We ordered. Got our food. It was great. The sweet potato fries were superb. I would definitely recommend this place both as a Celiac and as a non Celiac. Worth the visit.
I’ve eaten here many times over the years. I have celiac and they are always careful and I’ve never been sick. They clean the grill to cook GF food, so if that bothers you keep that in mind.
Put on gluten free diet 3 months ago and found nearly impossible to get a gluten free bun tat tastes good until today at Grub Burger Bar. possibly the best hamburger I've ever had. Waiter Brendan was very good and helpful as were the bartender and others. If there was any issue, it might be the fact the burger was almost too big to bite but smashing it a little solved that. Will definitely become a regular.
