Torchy's Tacos

I got 2 Democrat tacos, rice and beans. My tacos were bland and 90% fat. I eat barbacoa a lot and I know it's fatty but this was pure chunks of fat and tiny morsels of meat. The rice I didn't even try because there were chunks of fried chicken breading in it right on top. I didn't bother with the beans, after the chicken breading in the rice I just didn't trust them.

Holy amazing tacos... I'd give more than a 5 star review if I could. Very knowledgeable about gf and cross contamination. We will DEFINITELY be back!

I've had horrible experiences with the location near me in Houston. So. Very. Bad.

But I just had a great experience here in Waco. Considering the effort they put into the menu and checkout process I was satisfied and look forward to more visits in the 4 years to come if my child ends up attending Baylor.

THE BEST TACOS. They had gluten sensitive menu options (grilled instead of fried) so I was able to try a lot of their tacos. Eaten multiple times and haven’t gotten sick. They do fry their chips in the same fryer FYI!

Do not go here for gluten free. Chips not guaranteed to be fried separate, tacos served with fried shrimp and fried mushrooms even when ordered carefully. They remade my dinner but I still got sick.

Great tacos and queso. Eat here all the time with no issues!

Be very cautious about ordering off the gluten free menu here. I ordered a shrimp taco off the gluten free menu. The taco I was served had breaded shrimp in it. Thankfully I saw the breading and asked the manager about it. She said the shrimp was breaded in flour. I told her that I ordered from the gluten free menu and that I have celiacs so I could not eat it. They had to make entirely new tacos that had grilled shrimp.

I had chips and queso. They were good. I didn't have a taco but when I asked about gf they said they can make any taco with a gf corn tortilla.

Tacos are excellent and the staff is super helpful! I'm gluten free, my husband isn't and we both had a terrific lunch!

Really tasty tacos and chips and queso and they have gf menu online, but I was mildly sick after both times I ate there, so there must have been cross contamination but it was mild. I've had way worse reactions from restaurants, this just made my stomach a little upset for about an hour. I'm very sensitive though, so if you're less sensitive you'll probably be totally fine. Friendly staff, great margs, and the food was really good.

Ate here for the first time. Very tasty & fresh food. They use corn tortillas, see the online GF menu for options. Little too spicy for my tastes but it was very good. Enjoyed the chips & queso, crossroads was very good & the democrat was ok. Will be going back!

Very good about gluten free, the server that took my order even said they would change gloves. Awesome!

They have a gluten free menu online which is very helpful. Most everything can be made gluten free, usually it's just a corn tortilla instead of flour. The tacos and street corn are very delicious!

Came from Nebraska and was nervous about traveling and food allergies. The staff took the time to make sure our visit here was the best. My husband says he wishes he would have ordered 2 wranglers instead of just one! Thanks Torchys for making our vacation a little more relaxing. If you have a dairy problem make sure you order your breakfast taco without eggs.

They made a lot of changes regarding their gluten free choices to the point of putting gluten free/ food allergy alerts on the tickets/ receipts when ordering. In the past the cashiers were clueless even if you ordered off the special lamented gluten free menu which caused problems when your order came out unsafe (and you find out why after eating). Still there mobile app is gluten friendly even before that got updated. I would call in my an order specifically mention it needed to be gluten free and always got help or a callback when something could not be such as their monthly taco of the month. This is why I will keep going back to this Torchy's.

Oh so yummy! A good variety of gourmet tacos, chips & dips. The place was packed, but the line moved quickly & the food was served quickly. I had the baja shrimp taco, chips & salsa. Fabulous!

Summary - Yummy but had issues ordering from the gluten conscious menu and chips are in shared fryer.

Story - When I asked the server about gluten they immediately brought over the manager. Manager was great! They brought me the “gluten conscious” menu, explained that the chips are fried separately but the oil from both fryers are combined (so not GF but listed on the menu). I ordered the baja shrimp taco and the brisket taco on corn tortillas, mentioning the gluten allergy/menu to the server.

When the food came out, the shrimp was breaded and fried (so not GF), so we sent back with the server to redo. Then we realized that my partner’s burrito had vegan meat instead of the beef he ordered (burritos are not GF). He mentioned to manager who happened to walk by. Manager went back to kitchen and didn’t come back out until our food was out and correct. Everything was really good, including the mexican rice and street corn sides.

We tried to pay but the manager comped our meal. Very nice!

There is a bar and specialty cocktails but we didn’t try any.

I told the server I had celiac disease, explicitly asked her to indicate that I was GF on my ticket, and she did not. She also told me the chips are cooked in the same fryer as everything else, so I did not have any. Anyway, I ordered the airstream salad with the grilled chicken and have been sick all day :(

The person behind the counter seemed a bit unsure in dealing with gluten free requests, but then she also couldn't tell me what white wine they had, so she must have been new. Be sure to look at the "gluten conscious" menu to know your options before you order. That said, the chips are made in a dedicated fryer, and the queso and GF tacos we picked were great.
