We had a great meal at duke's! We started off with chips and salsa as the gf alternative to bread, which was delish! For an appetizer we had the scallop and shrimp skewer duo. I would have never paired maple with scallops or shrimp but it was delightful.
They did bring a paper straw with my drink but once I let them know that was not celiac friendly, the server thanked me for letting them know and brought me a new one.
All of their chowders are gluten free so we tried the sampler with clam chowder, seafood red chowder, lobster bisque and corn chowder. They were all absolutely delicious but the corn was my favorite. We also shared a Caesar salad, hold the croutons.
For an entire, I had the ginger salmon, with mashed potatoes, so good!! My husband had the rockfish tacos with a flour shell because he is not celiac, but next time we will try them with the corn tortillas! So many options here and we will return!
Also, the hospitality was excellent - we dined on the patio on the water on a chilly evening and they had wonderfully plush blankets and an overhead heater! Delightful!
Had a great meal at Dukes. Started with the hot crab dip and they brought chips to replace the bread. Had some GF clam chowder. Pretty good, but a little thick. Still enjoyed it though. And then a yummy piece of halibut with fingerling potatoes. My tummy felt great and I’m ready to go back. 🙌🏼
The food is delicious, especially a blackened salmon salad! I like it that the menu is marked with GF and some items not marked can be made GF and staff was great to find out when we have questions. We are also dairy free (DF) so the only dessert available is sorbet so opt out. I wish they had another dessert offering that’s GF & DF.
Had a super delicious meal here. Our waiter made extra care to make sure I was safe. He even went down to the cellar (?) to look at the ingredients to double check things. They also always alert the manager about celiac and he came over to talk to our table too. He also has celiac! It was a really great experience.
Really great experience, the waiter was knowledgeable and as soon as I said I have Celiac he jumped into discussing their policies for GF menu items. I ordered the Royal Ranch Filet Mignon which was freaking incredible, the best steak I've had in a very very long time. Besides bringing my food out with my family's (not GF), the staff were very careful and discussed changing gloves, cooking everything separately and away from gluten food, and how their sauces and spices are all GF. They also have so many GF menu items, it wasn't hard to pick!! It's the day after and I have not had any symptoms at all. Definitely coming back, and this will probably be our date-night spot!
Absolutely amazing experience with fantastic and educated staff. We ate in the bar after having to leave Fogo de Chao downstairs because they couldn’t accommodate celiac. Hearing the words “no cross contamination” & “we can make you something special” really saved the night. It was obvious this place knew CC & allergies (even tortilla chips are made off site and are safe!). Easily accommodated a dairy allergy too. Can’t say positive enough things!
Definitely go :) The ambience, energy, and food were all wonderful. I ate clam chowder for the first time in forever!!! I noticed their sandwich portion of the menu is somewhat limited GF. But if you’re going for fish, there are many options. I had a really yummy “unchopped” salad with scallops and shrimp. Make sure to get it tossed!
They usually serve bread to the table, but brought us corn tortilla chips and salsa instead :)
We've eaten here at least 6-7 times since my wife was diagnosed as a celiac. Very good food, excellent service, lots of GF menu options clearly marked. Most important, when we notify our server about my wife's condition the manager always checks in with us to explain what their kitchen process is and they provide a GF appetizer.
Wow - so happy! I thought that Duke’s was lost to me after my celiac diagnosis in 2015. I even had my 2008 wedding at Duke’s on Alki. Well, June 2023, I gave it a try again and to my delight, so much is marked off gluten free! Parker was our server at the Tukwila location and she was so knowledgeable! I did the chowder sampler, had the rockfish tacos (the GF version) and my kid had a gluten free burger off the kids menu. Topped it off with raspberry lemonade sorbet. Amazing dinner!
(Back here in July 2024!)
I feel like Dukes deserves a good review. The menu clearly designates which items are gluten-free, and there are many options. Our server was also knowledgeable, understood the term "celiac," and other servers who helped bring our food to the table knew where the GF dish was supposed to go. I was impressed that their chowders are GF. That’s pretty rare. I also had grilled mahi and vegetables, which were delicious.
I’ve read other reviews on this app and see that some folks thought they got glutened at Dukes. That wasn’t my experience. Admittedly, exposure gives me only mild symptoms. I would add that with the variety of GF options on offer, it’s possible to be more selective about what you order. For example, grilled fish and fresh vegetables are generally less likely to get contaminated than soup and chowders, etc.
I had the 4 chowder flight and shared the clam appetizer with my party (before they put bread in the sauce when we were done). When I said I was Celiac, they understood and told me that they took extra precautions. I liked that they had gluten free carrot cake, and it was pretty good. I didn't get sick afterwards. There are lots of options to make me want to go back.
I love this place because they have a variety of yummy chowders all gf. Sitting out on the deck is super nice overlooking alki beach. They have gf bread - actually those gf hamburger buns - had I preferred a sandwich I would have appreciated that. Variety of salads with seafood and seafood mains plus burgers etc. Good cocktails.
Excellent meal with a beautiful view and great service. Menu is well marked and has a wide range of options that at GF. They brought me chips and salsa instead of sourdough bread at the start of the meal and the manager came out with them to clarify if I was just avoiding gluten or celiac. I’m celiac and had no symptoms following this meal.
I love eating here! Menu is clearly marked, and staff is incredibly knowledgeable. I’ve been here multiple times and never gotten sick, I always feel safe eating here. If you let them know you are gf, they will bring you chips and salsa instead of the bread.
Menu has many items marked GF. They also can make burgers GF. We ordered then the manager came out and talked with us. He has celiac as well! My daughter had the kids meal of salmon and roasted potatoes. Fries are made in a mixed frier so don’t eat those- waiter knew this and told us.
Food was FANTASTIC! They’re attention to celiac and cross contamination is great! I was assured my meal was prepared on a separate cutting board, clean grill and fresh gloves etc. they serve sourdough at your table but if you tell them you’re celiac you get your own chips and salsa! Loved this place!
We stopped in for dinner last week and I was overwhelmed by how many GF options there were! I’d heard good things about their chowder, so opted for the Quad Dinghy Chowder Sampler with small portions of the classic, lobster mobster Pernod, NxNW, and raging’ Cajun corn chowders. They were all decent but the classic was my favorite. Our server also brought me out a plate with safe tortilla chips and Verde salsa in lieu of the bread basket when I told her about my Celiac, which was really nice since the sourdough my partner got looked and smelled delicious. Nice touch to have an option for us. We had great service and I didn’t have any reaction afterward, so I’m looking forward to checking out more of their GF menu.
