Lots of gluten free items clearly marked. All the (delicious) chowders are by default gluten free. Allegedly the owner of Dukes worked to make sure all the gluten free items were up to the same quality as "normal" items - you can tell!

So good and some great gluten-free options. Our waiter told us Duke’s daughter has celiac, so they are well versed and sensitive to it.

Food was FANTASTIC! They’re attention to celiac and cross contamination is great! I was assured my meal was prepared on a separate cutting board, clean grill and fresh gloves etc. they serve sourdough at your table but if you tell them you’re celiac you get your own chips and salsa! Loved this place!

Server was knowledgeable and volunteered kitchen protocol for gluten free and celiac safe which inspired confidence. I stuck to dishes that would be naturally gluten free vs could be accommodated.

We stopped in for dinner last week and I was overwhelmed by how many GF options there were! I’d heard good things about their chowder, so opted for the Quad Dinghy Chowder Sampler with small portions of the classic, lobster mobster Pernod, NxNW, and raging’ Cajun corn chowders. They were all decent but the classic was my favorite. Our server also brought me out a plate with safe tortilla chips and Verde salsa in lieu of the bread basket when I told her about my Celiac, which was really nice since the sourdough my partner got looked and smelled delicious. Nice touch to have an option for us. We had great service and I didn’t have any reaction afterward, so I’m looking forward to checking out more of their GF menu.

Staff was very helpful and even double checked my drink to make sure there was no gluten containing ingredients. They offered me chips and salsa while the rest of the table had bread! I got the crab deviled eggs, clam chowder, and halibut special. Everything was delicious!

I ate there 2 days ago and am still suffering the consequences of being glutened. The server was nice and knowledgeable but it still didn’t prevent gluten/cross contamination. As a celiac I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

I’m not one to leave reviews, but something happened last night that was very scary for a person with an allergy. As I have a very severe reaction to gluten, we almost never eat somewhere that isn’t fully gluten free anymore. However, after phone calls and in person reassurance about how seriously they take gluten allergies, we have eaten at Duke’s several times. After last night though, we are seriously questioning that judgment call and are weighing whether we will be going back any time soon.
Last night I ordered one of the new items on their menu that was marked GF. After speaking with the waitress about my allergy and confirming it would be gluten free, it arrived at the table with a fried tortilla. I asked the server who brought it out about the tortilla and whether it was fried in house and in a shared fryer as I had an allergy. I was told that if it was marked gluten free then it wasn’t a shared fryer. However, after taking two bites of pieces of fish near the tortilla, the waiter ran back to us and told me to stop eating as he just found out that it was actually put into a shared fryer. After some back and forth with the server and our waitress, it was confirmed that our order was actually marked as an allergy, but even with that label it wasn’t caught that this dish wasn’t actually gluten free at all. So not only was it incorrectly marked GF on the menu, somehow an allergy marker on my order also didn’t catch this.
Luckily, I hadn’t taken a bite of the tortilla yet, and I am so grateful to the server who must have sprinted back to our table to let us know. This just proves how important that it is for anyone with an allergy to always double and triple check everything put in front of them, but it also raises serious questions of how a restaurant who highlights how good they are with allergens to make such a grave mistake. It’s one thing to go to a restaurant and expect for the chance of some cross contamination in a kitchen, but it’s an entirely different thing for the allergen itself to end up on a plate marked safe on the menu, and for a customer who asked for their order to be marked for an allergy. We did continue our meal as we were reassured that everything else would be perfectly fine as the mistake was only made on the other dish as it was recently introduced to the menu, but with more time to think about the seriousness of the mixup I don’t think this was the right decision on our part. It’s a real shame as the restaurant is gorgeous and the food is delicious, but we’re unsure whether we could ever trust the safety of this restaurant again.
In summary, if you have any type of allergy, I would seriously weigh the risks before eating here.

Wow - so happy! I thought that Duke’s was lost to me after my celiac diagnosis in 2015. I even had my 2008 wedding at Duke’s on Alki. Well, June 2023, I gave it a try again and to my delight, so much is marked off gluten free! Parker was our server at the Tukwila location and she was so knowledgeable! I did the chowder sampler, had the rockfish tacos (the GF version) and my kid had a gluten free burger off the kids menu. Topped it off with raspberry lemonade sorbet. Amazing dinner!

I have a severe gluten intolerance and have eaten here many times over the past seven-plus years. My daughters, who also have gluten issues, one with celiac, have eaten here as well with no problems. Duke’s has a separate GF menu and the staff is knowledgeable about gluten concerns and takes them seriously. The food is consistently excellent and the GF carrot cake is amazing!

Wonderful experience! Both Celiac daughters had a kids burger with a GF bun and roasted red potatoes. The tortilla chips and salsa was a nice touch in place of bread. They also had (and loved!) clam chowder for their first time since most chowders are not GF. The carrot cake was a great way to end a fantastic meal.

Celiac! I tried the unforgettable sea code taco with a cup of ragin' cajun chicken corn chowd er. They were fantastic! The waitress even offered some tortilla chips and salsa for me to snack on while the rest of my family had the sourdough bread and butter before our entrées. The waitress assured me they change gloves and clean everything before preparing gluten free items, even before I asked them to, as soon as I said celiac! I am extremely sensitive to cross contamination and I am perfectly fine the next day.

Go for the chowder! They are all so delicious! Our waitress told us that Duke has several grandchildren who are celiac so the company takes it seriously. I ordered with no concern, and the waitress even asked me what kind of bourbon I wanted just in case it was made with mash and therefore not celiac safe. (I never considered this and need to look into it! 😬) I highly recommend Duke’s it if you’re in the area.

Wow! When I saw how "small" the gf menu was compared to the overall menu, I was skeptical - but EVERYTHING I ate was wonderful - not just safe, but flavorful, and worthy of writing a great review. The flavor combo's were great - and I highly recommend getting the "tasting" of a bunch of different kinds of chowder - every chowder offering is GF!! I had one that sounded interesting - a sweet potato base with Pernod - so delicious. They use a blend of 7 flours for the roux that makes the chowder!! I've only been once but if I lived here, I would eat here often.

First, let me say I suffer from Gluten sensitivity and milk intolerance so I have to be strict about what I put in my body or I pay for it later. Duke’s offers a wonderful GF menu and when I mentioned my milk issue the waitress suggested a chowder that was not only gf but dairy as well. Everything was delicious! Well done Duke’s. Well done

They asked if my gf request was celiac or intolerance and seemed extremely cautious. I love that they give warm tortilla chips and tomatillo salsa as an alternative to the fresh bread. The fish is always cooked PERFECTLY, and the flavors are amazing. It is expensive, but you’re getting what you pay for. I’ve eaten here many times and have never gotten sick. The staff was very accomodating and went over the menu with me so I could be sure which options were gluten-free. A strong knowledge of cross contact procedures was shown by the staff. The gluten-free items on the menu were limited to appetizers and salads, but there was a decent variety. The chicken skewers and beef sliders (without buns) were both excellent. They also had gluten free Seattle (hard) Ciders. The honey variety was quite good.

My server was clearly familiar with celiac disease; when I told her I had celiac disease she thanked me for letting her know and said she’d both flag the order and personally speak to the kitchen to ensure they take special precautions to protect against cross contact. The items listed on the menu as gluten free are mostly chowders and salads but she pointed out all the places where mods are possible (for example, the tacos can be made with corn tortillas though it’s not their default). Nearly everything but the crab cakes had an available modification. Ghost fish GF beer too! Everyone who brought out food confirmed it was gluten free with special precautions. The corn tortillas were bigger than I expected so we double checked when they came out but it was. Very delicious and easy experience. I felt very safe.
I’m not sure why there is t better labeling for GF available items, but the staff were all very knowledgeable and helpful.

GF items clearly marked. Not for celiacs as the menu clearly states there may be cross contamination. Had the gf haddock and was sick the next morning and I can take a little cross contamination. Therefore I don’t recommend for gluten intolerant either. Food was okay not great so you aren’t missing a thing by skipping.

Pros for GF: a lot of gf chowder options. Cons; not a lot of other GG options. We have not been to the area in awhile, and we thought we remeber some other fish gf options. I believe they only had salmon. Overall good stop for chowder and salad. The chowder is reallly good.

Really friendly and knowledgeable service. Apparently Duke’s (Duke - the founder) daughter was diagnosed with celiac, so they’re trained to be very aware and informed about cross contamination etc. They informed me that every item marked GF on the menu was celiac safe. I enjoyed a margarita on the rocks, prawns and avocado salad, as well as a lettuce wrapped burger (the one with avocado and bacon). I would definitely recommend Duke’s.

*not avoiding CC yet due to wait for endoscopy* Duke’s staff seemed very knowledgeable and proactive about restrictions. The menu was well-marked for GF options, of which there were plenty. Our server brought me GF bread that was pretty dang tasty and even supplied the ingredients list- I’m going to try to replicate it once I’ve got some gf baking under my belt. They seemed quite attentive to allergies in general. There was also a recipe that came out on one of the dishes, and I noticed it came with a specific GF blend listed as alternative to the flour used for the roux. I’m not trying to avoid CC yet, as I’m between blood test and endoscopy, but I would confidently try this after endoscopy.
