Rice noodles, steak, and GF teriyaki. Very good. Their online menu says the teriyaki is gluten free, but when I asked at the restaurant they had to grab a different bottle, so don't trust online. Fairly confident in the safety, but all the food is pretty close.

I told them I have Celiac’s and the person helping me immediately washed her hands and got clean gloves. 2 of the 3 meat options are gluten free and all their sauces are gluten free. She got my rice from a separate area so I didn’t have to worry about cross contamination. I will definitely be back!

I must dispel the conflicting reviews: the meatballs are NOT gluten free lmao
They’re good about changing gloves if you ask them, most of the food is safe. They have a full allergen menu on their site https://www.zaoasiancafe.com/nutrition/
Pretty good food, expect to pay $15 after tip

The only thing not GF is the fried onions. If you let the staff know you need GF at this location they take extra precautions.

Easy to get a GF bowl. Just don’t add crispy onions. All the sauces and meats are GF. They have a GF menu online. They’re not great with cross contamination (the tongs are used for crispy onions and peanuts) but can be more careful if you ask them to.

Ate at 2 different locations while traveling through Utah. Online ordering was easy and customizable. Many GF items marked on menu, so helpful. My daughter has a wheat allergy but very sensitive to contaminants. Even the fresh drink dispenser was fun with cucumber-lime, mango and passionfruit. Zao's was great!

Went to the one in Layton. Beware, as soy sauce is used in some of the sauces. I experienced nausea about 30 minutes after I ate.

Never been here before, but told them I had a gluten allergy. They called down the line for a complete glove change which was absolutely amazing. Ordered a bowl with white rice and chicken. Soy sauce is gluten free.
Great food. Great customization options. Great staff! Definitely will be going back.

Went for Valentine’s Day, and it was delightfully uncrowded. In fact, they were empty by the time we left. It’s nice that they mark if something is gluten free on the menu. Mostly they have Asian stuff and fusion options for making tacos. I mentioned that I had an allergy to gluten, and they changed their gloves without being asked. I got a bowl with rice noodles, teriyaki sauce, chicken meatballs, and veggies. The meatballs were very good but the bowl probably could’ve used double the sauce. A little bland. But my husband absolutely loved what he got. I don’t know that the flavors are so amazing that I’d come often, but it was perfect for Valentine’s Day—not straight up fast food and not horribly crowded.

This is my celiac husband's choice for takeout 90% of the time! It's filling and delicious and he doesn't feel the need to order special like other places. His go to order is a bowl with rice, steak, teriyaki sauce, and his favorite veggies/toppings. He's eaten here more times than I can say and has never had a problem.

My girlfriend loves this place, and, as I was diagnosed with Celiac and am more aware of the difficulty of finding gluten-free options, I now love this place as well. Their menu online lists all of their gluten free ingredients. The only things you have to look out for based on my review are the spinach wrap, the yakisoba noodles, and their brownies. Based on watching their construction of the salad I ordered, each item has their own serving utensils so you don't have cross-contamination issues. I will definitely be eating there more often.
Yes
They were really good about being gluten free. They changed their gloves and informed me on all the things that were safe to eat. All the sauces are gf because they use a gf soy sauce which is really nice because like no other places do that. The food is literally so good. The only thing is that I always feel bloated afterward and I don't know why
