I have celiac. When you order a sandwich, you MUST explain to them you have a severe allergy and to change their gloves and avoid cross contamination. A lot of people do not think about toasters, and the staff is not actively trained in allergy protocol. They do not have a designated toaster. A manager informed me to not order my sandwiches toasted. So, if you have a severe allergy, I recommend ordering your sandwich hot but NOT toasted. It is very apparent when it is toasted because you will see the lines on the bread. I have eaten here numerous times with no issue, and the staff is always extremely willing to help. I am very sensitive to gluten.

We eat at the McAlester’s all the time! Ask for the manager Rita. She is amazing and will take good care of you. We get sandwiches, baked potatoes and salads that are GF. They also have several GF/ DF options. Always a great experience.

I’d like to preface this by saying we eat at our local Mcallister’s all the time and it is excellent. Maybe that’s why we were so disappointed in our order from this location. We got two different baked potatoes to go and the toppings were minuscule compared to the potato. They didn’t include any butter, sour cream, plastic ware or salt and pepper. By the time we got back to our hotel and discovered everything we were missing the entire meal felt like a waste. The food that we did eat didn’t cause any allergic reactions but the experience was a total bummer.

They offer any of their sandwiches on GF bread for an upcharge. Check with their allergy listing sheet to see what sandwich fillings are GF. As far as I know, none of the soups are GF. Prices tend to be a bit high, so sign up for their app and get a discount.

Asked the gentleman behind the counter if the ranch was gluten free. He wasn’t sure, he then asked a lady in the kitchen area & these were the words I heard her tell him. “No! Nothing here is really gluten free”

This location of McAlister’s is the best! I eat here probably once a week and have never gotten sick! They have gf bread which isn’t bad. If you tell them it’s an allergy they won’t put it on the grill (cc). Their baked potatoes are also delicious! Love this place and feel very safe eating here.

When ordering with gluten free bread they all of it’s an allergy or a preference. They then change gloves and use different utensils. I’ve never had a problem at any of their locations.

They have amazing gluten free bread! They also ask if you have a gluten free allergy or if it’s a preference (I’m assuming for how they prep the food). The food was really good!

I love dining at this McAlisters. They have an option for gluten-free bread and it’s pretty good for gluten-free. I get the veggie sandwich most times and add turkey. You can’t go wrong with the baked potatoes or salads either. With salads though stress no croutons.

Turkey is processed, slimy, bland.
Most of menu is a variety of something else.
French dip beef was rainbow tinted with makes me think old.
About the best thing on the menu is the soups.
Many seem to like the place but I have high standards on food and this isn’t even close. Pass.

Just ate here and the gluten free options were great. The food was wonderful and I didn't get sick for once...

Delicious and a good variety. We had spuds, nachos, and salad. You can ask for a GF menu, or look for the wheat symbol on the displayed menu.
I would’ve taken a picture but it was so good that it disappeared too fast! Absolutely love this place, I got the grilled chicken club on GF bread and it was delicious and affordable. Will definitely be returning and recommend it to everyone!
Yes
The staff was so helpful. They offer gluten free bread for all sandwiches. I ordered a french dip. They even recognized that the au jus was NOT gluten free and didn’t bring it with the sandwich. I spoke to the manager about how thankful I was for there help and she told me that when it is a gluten free meal, they change their gloves and use a different knife. They also prepare in a separate area. I will definitely frequent this restaurant.

Don't wast your time.!!! They are rude and ill informed about gluten free. I tried it twice and got sick both times!!!!!!!

I had no help with what was gluten free, the girl at the register told the cook to change his gloves and he rolled his eyes and said something under his breath. After that why would I even want to eat there, I knew he wasn’t going to take the right precautions. I cancelled my order. Horrible service.

We placed a carry out order over the phone and told the person taking our order that my boyfriend has celiac and his food needs to be gluten free. Unfortunately, he was very bloated and felt sick and in pain after eating the purportedly gluten free spud he ordered. Also, if you have to travel more than 10 minutes with the carry out food, don't go here, as it doesnt keep very well. The food is very tasty here when fresh though.

Hard to screw up a baked potato so I didn’t try anything else. Service was great and conscientious . Best Iced Tea in South Bend.
Gluten free bread, veggie chili that’s also gluten free, lots of spuds, and every time I’ve been, I’ve heard them yell back to the kitchen to make sure they notice the gluten “allergy” on the ticket so they can clear their space and change gloves.
Yes
Didn't get sick! Just can't get your bread toasted
Helpful and patient staff, many choices well marked, tasty sandwiches.
Gf bread for sandwiches and still have other options like spuds and salads if you don’t want sandwiches. I’m not celiac just intolerant but they ask allergy or preference so they take it with concern!
Staff was very knowledgeable and assured me that precautions would be taken to prevent cross-contamination. Many options on gluten free bread. They were very busy but managed to keep my meal safe!
Yes
My gluten free sandwich to go was served in a plant based container made from wheat straw. Celiac friendly ONLY if you dine in!
No
My favorite place to go for lunch in Muncie. Very knowledgeable, if you tell them you need GF they immediately ask if it’s an allergy? Then alert kitchen to change gloves. Delicious bread for sandwiches and baked potatoes! I’ve never had an issue here and the GM Mike is so helpful and great!
Yes
Their gluten free bread was delicious and their website really lays out what you can and cannot have! Have had zero issues since coming here!
They offer gluten free bread, which is tasty.
Yes
Awesome! With the update they added little wheat symbols next to all the gluten free options. There's also gluten free buns available to sub into the sandwhich
Yes
They yell out Allergy and the type of allergy and yell out to change gloves. Eaten here over 10 times with no issues. I have celiac disease.
Delicious sandwiches!!!! Amazing place

Management let my daughter try 4 different salad dressings to see which she liked (Sherry Shallot) since they don't have her favorite, Italian. Their gluten free breed was really good.

Great with cross contamination and really yummy food!

They offer a gluten free bread substitute. My sister and I both have celiac, and we are pretty sensitive and we have never had problems eating here. They do good with keeping food safe for you. Make sure you tell them to change gloves, and if you are getting bread toasted make sure they have it covered in tinfoil or don’t toast it. They have a menu and on it you can find the gluten free marks. It is sort of pricey, but you get a lot for what you pay for.
Yes
I have eaten here several times and never gotten sick. I make sure they ask the kitchen to change their gloves.
Yes
Nice lunch option. It’s nice to be able to have a sandwich. my only option not being a salad!! They have gluten-free bread that is very good. They also have soup options that are gluten-free as well as baked potatoes
Nachos say gf on the menu, but when asked they really aren’t, so why are they gf on the menu? Here at 7pm, they close at 8, and they’re out of spuds, which was a bummer when half their menu is spuds. I Ordered a salad because they don’t have any sandwiches on gf bread, which in this day and age, across from a college is strange. Limited gf menu. Only here, because we are traveling through and staying at the hotel next door. The salad was really good though, which is why they got 3 stars. Staff was friendly too.
