Walking through the door my partner and I were greeted right away. The selection of foods is amazing the the flavors are even better! We tried the avocado fries/chalupa/salmon/ and mushroom manudo and it was hands down some of the best gf and df foods ever! From seasoning to plating and service, this place absolutely deserves recognition and I plan on coming here more whenever I'm in town. Would HIGHLY recommend!!

We had the avocado toast sandwiches with roasted chicken: AMAZING! Not only was the gluten-free bread good, it was delicious! Seemed like it was homemade with a delicious flavor. I wish I'd ordered 2 sandwiches! We also had dessert: a cream cheese espresso brownie, and a gluten-free cupcake both of which were incredible! Highly recommend!!

Make sure to check out the menu online before going for lunch as the menu is very limited and changes weekly. There is a very small area to sit and eat if you want to dine in. The cashew tarte was very tasty!

Always love going here -- great menu that has plenty of dairy free options along with everything being gluten free. Owner also changes the menu pretty often so you never get tired of ordering the same thing while keeping a few staple items. Always love getting takeout from here or eating in. Highly recommend

Got sent to Pittsburgh for work and was worried about food as I am celiac. I found this place and almost cried when I ate the meal since it was so good and safe for me.

We tried a little bit of everything since it was all safe. The desserts were divine: Farmer’s cheese and lemon meringue pie. Macaroons also amazing. Wild mushroom ravioli and Pierogi I sandwich were our favorites.

The person on the phone is very helpful, nice and explains everything. For now it is all online ordering and curbside and the website is very up front and easy to order. Breads are a day in advance and understood, they only make to order items, FRESH. The food is well worth any drive, dedicated GF and yummy. They are even around 80% GF/vegan! I can not say enough about this place, run do not walk to this place.

Curbside pick up after ordering online was the only option available, so we ordered from parking lot and waited about 40 min. Website was somewhat confusing, some items not available for for several days. Macaroons, veggie wrap and avocado toast sandwich were very good, worth the 30 min drive and 40 min wait. Person on the phone was rude/annoyed but we were happy with our celiac safe meal!

Delicious!!! Got a sandwich, avocado fries, and a couple slices of tarte (pecan and lemon), best GF tarte crust I've tried!! Definitely worth the drive.

For COVID, he is doing online-order only for pickup (I was a little confused when I arrived and thought they were closed). You need to order online, pay, and set a pick-up time. He sets it on a table outside after you call to pick it up. You can't go inside to order.

The owner has celiac and is extremely careful. He has had extensive experience and training, and his food is delicious. His bakery/restaurant is also vegan friendly and highly rated as a vegetarian restaurant.

Absolutely amazing lunch. I has broccoli cheese soup with *croutons* that was out of this world. Then I had the prosciutto and cheese grilled waffle sandwich. Amazing. The flavors are incredible but the main thing is that this place gets the *texture* absolutely perfect. For dessert I had a banana walnut cookie ... not necessarily what I would usually pick but it was chewy and delicious. That “chew” that is missing with so many gf baked items. Run do not walk to this place.

PS I scrolled through to see the negative rating and realized it was about the owner’s personality. Yeah, we found him a little crusty but he’s a straight shooter and seemed very touched when I told him it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t let that stop me from trying this amazing place. I’d much rather have someone who is a little salty but makes safe and amazing food instead of someone who is perky and glutens me.

This place is truly a hidden gem. It is 100% dedicated gluten-free which is very nice to have that peace of mind. I like that the owner has a regular food menu in addition to the bakery items because it seems like everyone in the Pittsburgh area is so focused on sugary sweets, but apparently there is a large appetite for it! We had a crabcake entree over a salad and a pasta dish. Both were very tasty. The crabcake was good size and had barely any filler which is the right way to make it. Our pasta dish contained a tasty homemade nut-based cheese because I can't have dairy either. I very much appreciated his attention to detail in preparing our food. The salad was large and very nutritious. Mixed greens, cold leftover steamed cauliflower, carrots, sliced almonds, tomatoes, cukes, gf croutons, etc dressed in a vinaigrette. Very impresssed. My husband had fresh roasted and brewed coffee which smelled amazing! I would have had some if it wasn't late in the day. We took two small gf and vegan desserts home -- a cashew based fruit tart and a brownie. Both were top notch! Would never know they were gf! We don't typically eat out much but will definitely return again.

Love this dedicated GF and very V friendly place, great fresh food, I never get sick here and the service is always great, menu changes each week and the Spa upstairs is GF/V friendly as well, a must try. Much better then the other places in Pittsburgh!

Amazing gluten free options! From real food like pasta to deserts like meringues and the cutest mini macarons. Service is excellent. Everything is freshly made so expect a brief wait but they have fresh roasted coffee and comfortable seating to wait.

This is the first time I felt the need to write a review on this app after using it for 8 months. Extremely satisfied with this place!! I HIGHLY recommend. Some of the best quality food I have had in awhile! You can tell there is quite a bit of time and thought behind all of the food choices and it is very reasonably priced for the level of quality. Be sure to follow on Facebook to see the weekly menus. The entrees I got were excellent and the desserts just as good (swear the cream cheese brownie might be the best brownie I've ever had). It's a bit of a drive for me but absolutely worth it and I will definitely be back.

I eat lunch here regularly. Some of my favorites are the rice bowls, black bean soup, avocado fries and various pastas. James, the owner and chef is terrific and very knowledgeable. Ask him for some home grown and made hot sauce. He will also do special items like cakes and breads with notice. I know there are negative reviews of him but he has always been friendly and helpful to me. Everyone has a bad day once in a while.

Great food. Almost everything is gluten free. The owner explained that he has been gluten free, dairy free, and meat free since the 1980s and how hard it was to find safe food in the area. I did not get sick and I would recommend coming here.

For that posted great food, but he's rude. You are correct all around. He's a true French baker in all respects. There were times in the past he had someone helping out in the front on the register. But I haven't seen that in awhile. It takes a lot to engage the man. He is an excellent chef. You just need to ask him the right questions. I'm thinking he might even be a bit Asperger's and just lacks some social skills. I have spent some money there at times.. my daughter's baby shower cake was nearly $100 - standard round, plus I bought another $100 of things (bread and such) for the party. He is sort of matter-of-fact over it all. He would do better with a friendly person up front; however, if it he does have Asperger's he probably can't keep a person. Just try to engage him in coversation or avoid it and try to understand there is definitely a personality or aspie thing going on. And, for the record, I am a psych evaluator.

Wonderful dedicated facility with amazing options. Crepe was the best we've had and quiche was fabulous! Loved the dark roast coffee. Took a large box of goodies to go... macarons are top notch--love this place...we'll be back!

Excellent customer service, always very helpful. Quality fresh food, be it lunch or somethings sweet. Each time I am in Pittsburgh I stop here for lunch and a sweet. Did I say they have a number of vegan GF items as well? The lunch menu changes every week and is always very yummy, and only 10 minutes from the airport or 20 from downtown.

the food was the BEST gluten free I have ever had in a cafe or restaurant. the owner was the rudest ass I have crossed paths with in a very long time! My selections were basically 1 of every single item displayed. My total was $75 and not only did I not get a smile or thank you, he made me feel like I was inconveniencing him. It was not busy, there was only one other customer and he was already consuming his food while reading the newspaper. it did not appear that he was just trying to get opened for the day I mean it was 10 in the morning I didn't hear any timers going off or see him put anything into or take anything out of an oven and again in reference to the time 10 a.m. it's not as if he were trying to close up for the day. I know that I cannot say I won't go back because the food is very very delicious but he is a pompous ass hole! I give the food at 5 I give the owner a zero!

The food is delicious. I was actually worried that the quiche I got had gluten because it tasted so normal and so good! It was in fact gluten free.

I am revising my rating. While the food is excellent the owner/cook is awful. I only rated the food in my first review. Thought he was having a bad day and let his rude behavior go the first time. Visited a second time and he was just as rude. Welcomed me when I arrived but when I asked questions about the food he literally rolled his eyes and was condescending in response. I tried to engage in convo and asked about his reason for be so progressive and offering such a wide selection of gluten free and he said "it is what sells. You know I'm in business and that is what you do, sell what sells" this was w a "duh" attitude. Well I am a business owner and had just come from a network meeting and in my opinion treating customers w basic respect is required to sell anything. I will not be back ever.

Was in the bakery when the last client wrote the review, the chef did say Hello Ladies 3 times, told them to let him know if you have any questions. Yes there was a service person working on the fridge. He as well said I have the items in the fridge just read the tags, they are in the other fridge. I would say he has a soft voice not rude. I love the items here, been here a number of times when I am in town. The lunches are a must try.

This place is absolutely Ah-mazing! My husband and I both tried the fresh GF pasta and we both agreed that it is by far the BEST pasta (gluten and non-gluten) that we've ever had!!

This is THE BEST gluten free bakery and cafe in Pittsburgh metro area. The quality is easily better than many of the most top quality gluten free products I've enjoyed at restaurants, cafes and bakeries across the country. Many of the items are so delicious that I often have to double and triple check whether or not they are in fact gluten free. The constantly changing weekly menus for cafe lunch items are posted at the beginning of the week and many times I find myself planning my weekly travels around what's being served on any given day. Top recommendations would have to be the GF Pirogies, Veggies And Pasta, chocolate cake with raspberry layers, mocha brownies, large soft pretzels, cheese bread, chocolate and farmer's cheese mousse and even the dog biscuits have seemed to be a hit. If you're passing through or live in the area and you are gluten free, or not, cafe chocolate is a must.

How can anyone give this place a less then 5 stars? Who else has as many many GF items as Cafe Chocolade? Who else has 25 + pastas, lunch, quiche, 20 plus sweets every day and 25 flavors of macarons and they make pierogi, ravioli, tortillas, crepes who does this in the Pittsburgh area!! This place is a gem!
