Was sick after eating at this location. Spoke to a manager ahead of time, who assured me their food was celiac safe. She proceeded to tell me about how all tortillas, both corn and flour, are pressed together. Huh? I requested my tortilla not be pressed. Should have decided it wasn’t safe after speaking with the manager, but tried anyways, and felt very ill. My taco only had refried beans, cheese and avocado.

Torchy’s has a “gluten allergy” checkbox in their online ordering app (and probably also their registers). They also have separate physical GF menu (or did, pre-Covid) This is great, but locations vary in their awareness. I’ve been glutened twice at the William Cannon location. If I have to eat here, I order “in a bowl” to minimize possible contamination.

Due to the hand crafted nature of our food, variations in our supplier ingredients, and our use of shared cooking and preparation areas, we cannot ensure that our food is free from any allergens. We prepare our foods following procedures to prevent allergen cross-contact, but products containing wheat are made in our kitchens.
I ordered 2 tacos with corn tortilla and let the cashier know that I have a very severe reaction to gluten.
Apparently there was a cross-contamination in the kitchen because my abdomen almost exploded and was so painful after we had dinner here.

Delicious and separate GF menu, but I did have a reaction. Not a big one, but there may have been some cross contamination.
No
We ate two tacos. One with pork and one with brisket. I tried the tortilla and the meat in Nima. approved! Yummy, fast and cheap.
Yes
Eat here frequently and have never been sick. Amazing tacos and the best queso I have ever had!
The food is great but the I got very very sick the last time I ate here. I would not recommend this place to someone with celiac
No
Very good for celiac, but no dedicated fryer (stay away from chips and fried anything). UPDATE: now has dedicated chip fryer at this location, OK for celiac for chips only. Other food fryer is still cross contaminated.
Wife has celiac disease, and has no problem eating here. Great food.
Yes
Several gluten free options available and they have a gluten free menu upon request. Best tacos around!
Several gluten free options and the tacos are incredible. There is a chance for cross-contamination, however.
this is an Austin original AND quality food!
Summary -
Yummy but had issues ordering from the gluten conscious menu and chips are in shared fryer.
Story -
When I asked the server about gluten they immediately brought over the manager. Manager was great! They brought me the “gluten conscious” menu, explained that the chips are fried separately but the oil from both fryers are combined (so not GF but listed on the menu). I ordered the baja shrimp taco and the brisket taco on corn tortillas, mentioning the gluten allergy/menu to the server.
When the food came out, the shrimp was breaded and fried (so not GF), so we sent back with the server to redo. Then we realized that my partner’s burrito had vegan meat instead of the beef he ordered (burritos are not GF). He mentioned to manager who happened to walk by. Manager went back to kitchen and didn’t come back out until our food was out and correct. Everything was really good, including the mexican rice and street corn sides.
We tried to pay but the manager comped our meal. Very nice!
There is a bar and specialty cocktails but we didn’t try any.

I told the server I had celiac disease, explicitly asked her to indicate that I was GF on my ticket, and she did not. She also told me the chips are cooked in the same fryer as everything else, so I did not have any. Anyway, I ordered the airstream salad with the grilled chicken and have been sick all day :(

The person behind the counter seemed a bit unsure in dealing with gluten free requests, but then she also couldn't tell me what white wine they had, so she must have been new. Be sure to look at the "gluten conscious" menu to know your options before you order. That said, the chips are made in a dedicated fryer, and the queso and GF tacos we picked were great.

The person who took my order was very knowledgeable about the menu and which items contained gluten and were safe. Food was absolutely delicious!
