I have celiac disease and I absolutely LOVED everything. They have gluten free sauces, the meat and rice are automatically gluten free, everything is clearly marked! It made it easy and I wasn’t worried about cross contamination whatsoever. It’s also a nice atmosphere! If you’re in the area, check them out!
I eat safely at Tokyo Joes all the time at several different locations. They are pretty safe since they’re trained to change gloves, knife and cutting boards for gluten free. (JIC always indicate it’s Celiac/allergy so they flag it and know to take the precautions they’re trained to)
The food is good and fresh, with gf options clearly indicated on the wall menu. The wait person asked if I needed a glove change. What I'm not crazy about here is that the menu is split into build your own warm rice bowls or build your own poke bowls, and the toppings don't cross over. The server didn't want to let us put a warm rice bowl condiment on a poke bowl. It was kind of ridiculous. Otherwise, it was tasty, safe, and reasonably priced.
I was very excited they had gluten free teriyaki! Delicious
Celiac friendly fast fresh yummy food heaven. Menu is clearly marked, lots of GF options. Employees are aware of allergy protocol, and if you order online from their website you can note allergies in the comments.
The food is delicious, most of it is gluten free, and the staff is super friendly and kind. I have never yet been glutened at any Tokyo Joe’s, including this one. Just let the server know you have a “gluten allergy” and the kitchen will prepare your meal taking every step they can against cross-contamination.
Absolutely delicious food!! I had the curry and spicy tuna rolls. GF items are marked directly on the menu. As a type 1 diabetic I also appreciate that they have ice teas sweetened with stevia. They can't guarantee no cross-contamination.
I came to eat here with a friend, and we were wondering what was taking so long with the food. When we asked we noticed they were cleaning their entire kitchen, just for me! No cross contamination. They were super accommodating and safe! I will definitely come here again!
I have eaten here before on numerous occasions but this is a first for me being gluten-free. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about celiac and gluten free options. The menu items that were gluten-free were clearly marked, and they gladly changed out their gloves. I will definitely be coming back!
I used to love Tokyo Joe's. Whole, healthy food with plenty of veggie and protein options? What's not to like? However, since being diagnosed with Celiac disease, I've been to this location twice. Both times I was clear and polite about being a Celiac, and I love the fact that they even have GF teriyaki available. However, I have been very, very sick within an hour of eating lunch here both times. Maybe I'll try it again one day, but for now, I'm not risking it
I have celiac and another allergy. They didn’t prepare my meal safely. When we tried to resolve the issue, we were given a blank gift card as the refund. When I went to use the gift card, Ronnie wouldn’t redeem it. He said we write these types of things in a book. Then I tried to redeem what he said would be put into the book but he refused to make the situation right. Ronnie should be fired for being unprofessional and displaying poor customer service. I would characterize him as a person who discriminated against folks with food allergies. He would rather not do business with people with food allergies or take responsibility for his staff or his own actions. Avoid this location!!! My secondary allergy is life-threatening anaphylactic and it’s understandable that accidents happen but either reimburse people with a refund or comp their meal at the same value that they spent.
Good food and attention to allergies. Gluten free teriyaki or soy sauce.
Food was good but not celiac friendly.
Riverside isn’t known for its GF food, but I was pleased to find I had a lot of options here. It’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had, but when I’m traveling I’m pretty much just happy if I don’t get sick. They have poke bowls, bento boxes, and a variety of choices of sauces and proteins. I’d definitely come here again. This place is more of a fast food type of restaurant than a sit-down sushi place.
Celiac here and always have good luck with this location. Menu is clearly marked and staff will take extra precautions if you tell them up front that you are celiac. Great staff who is always friendly and helpful. GF soy sauce is available.
Lots of gluten free options, everything is marked on their menu. Sushi staff washed hands and changed gloves before making a gluten free roll. The build your own bowls seem very safe and have very little risk of cross contamination because all of their grilled meats are gluten free and the sauces are kept separate and given to customers in to-go ramekins.
