I was told over the phone that fajitas, grilled chicken/steak entrees, and salads were relatively safe gluten free choices. Anything fried and with a flour tortilla isn't safe.
I explicitly asked if the Tacos Americanos were safe and was told they were, but they ended up giving me a reaction.

Been glutened a couple times and the food is never amazing. I will eat here but it’s never a first option for me, take caution
Double check your food here. I’m a fan of Margaritas across New England, but this location was very disappointing. I asked for corn tortillas for my tacos and the ones that arrived were noticeably flour ones. I had my friend eat a bit and they confirmed. I told the server and she claimed there was no mistake and it was a corn tortilla. Eventually she took it back and came out with new tacos, which were corn tortillas.
3 people in my family have celiacs. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable. Our food was delicious and no one had any issues later.

2nd time eating there and again fantastic food. Hubby and daughter both highly allergic and they take great care to not cross contaminate. Waitress both times attentive and lovely. Highly recommend it!

This restaurant says items are gluten free and that they will provide clean, freshly made tortilla chips and clean salsa. For a while they did. Recently I started getting positive tests on my Nima sensor. Then the chicken, stated to be GF, “might have been marinated in beer.” The last time I ate there in early May, I only had chips and salsa but something somewhere that I didn’t capture in my Sensor test must have had gluten. I was violently ill, vomiting for 12+ hours, serious GI pain for 3+ days. No more tries here. They don’t care in the kitchen.

I'll give an extra star because I've spent some time drinking margaritas here over the years and enjoyed the food prior to being diagnosed. I met a friend here recently who ordered the wings app. Since the menu has no indication of what might be GF, I asked the bartender if he knew if the wings were fried (they had grill marks, but were fried first) and if they shared a fryer with breaded items. He said, well they share the fryer with the chips, so they would be contaminated. Hmmm, corn chips are the source of contamination? I just passed on having a bite. Nobody mentioned that GF chips were an option. I'll just drink here in the future and go to Amuleto for good Mexican food.

They don’t have a separate Gluten Free Menu , but our server was very knowledgeable about what I could safely eat. She had special GF tortilla chips made with my own salsa ! She said she told the kitchen so they would take all precautions ( change gloves, etc). I had veggie enchiladas and they were so good !! 24hrs later and no symptoms! A great meal. A great server. Highly recommend
Staff was incredibly knowledgeable. They immediately told us the standard chips might be contaminated and brought fresh baked ones that are gf. My daughter has had no issues here.
Yes
Awful experience trying to eat GF here. No GF menu, was told to ask server about GF menu options. Waited over 20 minutes for GF chips. Ordered queso which had to be replaced because we didn't have GF chips. Had to give server top 2 choices to check if they were GF. Do not waste time going here.

Had a tasty meal with my vegetarian wife, picky toddler, and in-laws here tonight. After asking and having the server double check I ordered the original fish tacos, baked instead of fried, since the breading is just corn. Initially the kitchen accidentally sent out the wrong ones, but Cole, the kitchen manager, caught the error and booked it out and caught me before I'd taken a bite, and then came back with the right plate. (Note, I do mean I'm assuming he booked it, as he caught me in between squeezing on some like juice and picking up a taco for a bite. Good timing!) Would definitely feel ok going here again, but would double check a bit more carefully, in case the kitchen manager isn't there to catch mistakes. Yay for good food and no night of cramps and toilet time!
Wait staff guaranteed the food would be made separately and gluten free, but this was awfully incorrect. Food was delicious but definitely not gluten free, so I would highly recommend staying away from the food if you have Celiacs.
No
Food is great and you can always ask for corn tortillas. Staff is great!
Eaten here several times. Good food. Never been sick.
wait staff seems very knowledgeable about GF options, food was great!
Yes
Delicious Mexican food option for Celiacs. The waiter appeared to know what he was talking about, and showed me on the menu some of the items that contained gluten, and some that were safe to eat. I’m still a little suspicious about the the chips and taco shells, but the waiter guaranteed they were gluten-free.
Update: we checked with the corporate office, and my suspicions were correct: none of the chips are gluten-free, and the wait staff knows nothing about the ingredients in their menu items. DO NOT eat here if you have Celiacs, until they label their gluten-free menu items, and train their staff.
No
The restaurant is a good find, but the menu has no markings to show that it may have gluten free options, and though we did have gluten free chips but the only way to know there was chips was because of this app and the chips were not really that good. The food when we did get it was very good which is why it still gets four stars.
Fantastic options and knowledge staff. Ask for GF chips and if they don't have any ask for them to bake some. They are great about it! The Dover NH location is fantastic about going above and beyond and the staff loves to show off their knowledge which is awesome!
Yes
The managers/staff are great and very accommodating!!
Fast, friendly service with cute decor and gluten free options. Servers knowledgeable about Celiac & cross-contamination. Easy to access off I-95.
Really bad Mexican food and they don't cater to gluten free at all..
No
Delicious food! Friendly and knowledgeable staff! Chips are gluten free! I feel "normal" when I eat here and have never gotten sick. I'm very sensitive...GO!!!
Yes
They do offer a few gluten free options but overall not as much as other Mexican restaurants. The food was ok.
Very accommodating and lots of gf options. The fajitas are great. Make sure to ask for gf chips though.
They're so accommodating and knowledgeable about what is safe to eat. But make sure to ask for gluten free chips when they first serve them

My husband has CD. Everything else was closed so it was either Margaritas or the grocery store. Other reviews made us nervous but we jumped in. They were totally accommodating and informed. Right off the bat we were reassured. We will be back in the area and we will come back here. And the food was good.

No gluten free menu---discussed the GF options with server; she verified with kitchen staff. Different server brought my order, but it all appeared to be fried instead of grilled. I questioned it, and a kitchen manager ended up at our table and confirmed that not only was it fried, but the fish tacos (which had been recommened) were breaded with flour. :-( They did finally get me complimentary grilled gluten free shrimp tacos, but the rest of the family had long finished their dinner by that time.

From the moment I walked in, the staff took care of my needs. Instead of having to watch the other dinners munch tortilla chips and salsa, a plate of gluten free tortillas and my own salsa were delivered. Mojito was delicious as were the frozen blood orange margaritas others had. I have multiple allergies. The most difficult is finding a dairy free option. This may not be the place for you if both are problematic. The food was well prepared and overall a great experience.
Yes
They are extremely accommodating and well versed in gf! Only caution is to avoid the chips if you are extremely sensitive. They are deep fried in the first batch of clean oil after cleaning the equipment, but it is the same equipment. This is one of my "go to" safe places!!!
Yes
Recommended by my brother with celiac, which my two kids have also. We spoke with the manager, Peter, whose wife also has celiac disease and his daughter is gluten free due to Hashimoto's. Chips are in a dedicated fryer, and Peter made sure my daughter's chicken tostada corn tortilla went into that designated fryer as well. Boy got enchiladas, which Peter also assured us were safe. The grilled corn on the cob with cheese and crema, excellent! My brother recommends the fajitas as well. If you can tolerate it, the prickly pear margarita is soooo pretty and tasty! We shall come back, it's great to know the manager and staff (Peter pretty much repeated what our server Christina told us) look out for us!
excellent food and service. our waiter was very knowledgeable, checked everything with the chef. they even adapted a dish to make it gf. I'll be back!
Yes
They don't have a gf menu but the waitstaff are well trained and understand what Celiac Disease is. There are many options from the regular menu and they know what sauces are not gf. They will bring chips to your table but if you say you need gluten free, they will make fresh chips in a dedicated fryer. Highly recommend!
Yes
The waiter told us there was absolutely nothing gluten free - not even the chips and salsa. My husband went to check with the manager because he didn't believe him...the manager confirmed there was nothing gluten free on the menu! I think they were just being lazy. We were there with a big party, and we could only have drinks.
No
They are wonderful here! The manager even came to the table to go over everything with us. It is the only place my daughter feel safe eating at other than home
Yes
Great food, lots of options! They make GF chips separately too.
Yes
Service was slow, so it put a damper on rest of meal. Waitress said manager would have to come to explain menu. We waited quite a while, nobody came, so we just ordered. Waitress brought freshly made gfree chips that tasted like cardboard. There was some broken pieces of gluten chips from my husband in the salsa, so she should have brought separate salsa for me. I had 2 shrimp tacos for over $11. Nothing came with it for sides.
No
Staff very knowledgeable about Gluten Free. Made sure the food was double checked by managers. Very tasty! Tottilla chips baked.
Ate at the Margaritas in Portsmouth- no GF menu, however, our waitress was super sweet and understood what I could and couldn't eat. She brought me out my own basket of chips and salsa so that the chips weren't cross-contaminated!
Yes
There was no gluten free menu, but they were more than accommodating. The manager Jimmy came over and met with my daughter and I and explained our options. We ordered, Jimmy met with the chef and the meals arrived perfectly. Great job!
No gluten-free menu, but many of their regular menu items are/can be made gluten free with corn tortillas - just ask your server. They do not have a dedicated fryer, so if you're sensitive/celiac, avoid fried entrées and the free tortilla chips. (They will bake some corn tortillas for gluten-free chips on request, but they're not nearly as good.) I visit frequently, and the waitstaff always seem knowledgeable. I highly recommend for good Mexican food!
Yes
Knowledgeable manager came to our table to provide advice on GF and other allergens. She made sure the waitress and chef understood the restrictions, changed gloves, etc. Good Mexican good.
5-1-15 Perfect place to go if you're sensitive. Very knowledgable staff, and chef. They now have a gluten free fryer, so their chips are now GF. You can also have them baked. We go here every week, and we have now got the chef to STEAM our vegetables. We have come here since they opened, and since the wife was diagnosed with celiac they have adapted well. She gets the shrimp fajita, corn tortilla, with no seasoning and steamed vegetables and shrimp. Their beans are gf as well. Very nice place to go.
Yes
This place is great! Ask for the gluten free chips and they will bring them right out. They are very knowledgeable and good about taking care with gluten free items.

Good Mexican food!

They have separate chips which they bake in the oven instead of fry. I like the corn enchiladas. Be sure to tell them of any allergy because they usually flash fry the wrap in the contaminated oil. Still yummy and a great spot to visit with friends! Even outdoor seating in the summer!
The food us excellent. No GF dedicated menu or Fryer. Ask to speak to the manager for ordering. Tortilla chips at this location are baked. My server was knowledgeable, cautious and concerned for a safe meal. The Manager Diego Hernandez spoke to me at length and in detail about my options for a safe meal. I drove nearly an hour to eat here and will continue driving the distance to eat at this restaurant. I don't leave wondering if the next 5 days are going to be rough.
