Went on the factory tour and it was fantastic! When they gave out samples they had gluten and dairy free options (chocolate fish from phish food and second sample was lemon sorbet). When ordering from the ice cream counter after the tour I let them know I have Celiac and the server informed me she would switch gloves, wash up to her elbow, and use clean scoops and containers. I got the triple carmel chunk and absolutely loved it!
Such a great experience, especially with the tour. When ordering ice cream, the employees change gloves and wash from the elbows down plus get new containers and scoops. They are very knowledgeable and friendly regarding allergies! Daughter was so happy to enjoy ice cream and experience the factory!! All the employees seem well trained in allergies
I asked if they could scoop from a new container and the server said no, because they are hard frozen and take 10-15 minutes to soften. Instead he said he would scrape off the top layer and then use a new scoop for mine. He did this and I didn’t get sick but it did not inspire confidence.
I did not ask about allergen protocols for scooped ice cream. It was busy and I was nervous about asking for a clean scoop; however, they do sell sealed pints of ice cream, including several of the GF flavors. Not ideal if you’re looking for a cup or cone, and I paid double what I could have if I’d walked across the street to get a pint from Target (same goes for buying a cup, for that matter); however…
I’m giving five stars for being to able to eat ice cream outside an ice cream parlor with my family on a hot summer evening without having to stress about cross contact or talking to staff members.
Had a great experience getting their berry sorbet. Told them I was gf, they told me they'd go into the back and use a new scoop to get it out of a new barrel. I was very appreciative.
Amazing experience today! They were giving out free ice cream today so I took my kids. I mentioned my gluten allergy and they went to the back to use a fresh carton of ice cream for me! The gluten free options were very clearly marked on the menu and the staff was so helpful and confirmed that it was “gluten protected” when they gave me my order! It was very busy due to the free ice cream day, but they still took the time to keep my order safe!!
I haven’t been recently but previously have gotten prepackaged GFDF ice cream here, and also have had a cup of GFDF ice cream that they scooped from a new container. A lot of times their DF ice cream flavors are not GF, unfortunately. 4 stars because I wish they had more GFDF options, and also wish they had GF cones :).
Also, the staff at this location organized their own union and are unionized now! Scoopers United! This bodes well for the quality of service and happiness of staff and customers going forward. :)
FYI I just discovered this page on the B&J’s website that lists all their flavors that are certified GF (both DF and dairy flavors).
FYI Their website says that ice cream scooped at a shop can’t be certified GF b/c there is potential for cross contamination but that staff can open new containers and use clean scoops to reduce the risk.

The worker was very helpful and got the ice cream from the back with a new scooper. Felt very safe
The employee helping me was so kind! He showed me ingredients for the ice cream that I wanted (I ended up getting vanilla because it seemed safest), and he was even willing to grab me a new tub and scoop from the back even though it was out of his way. This is the kind of service I hope for whenever I eat out!!
We did the factory tour which includes an ingredient sample and an ice cream sample. Allergens clearly were listed for both, and the tour guide let everyone know if they needed an alternative they would do their best to find you one.
Both samples the day of our tour included wheat but an alternative was provided for both. Fish food chocolate pieces and special flavor were provided for me along with clear list of ingredients to ensure it was a good alternative.
The tour guide was enthusiastic about finding an alternative for me. Great experience all around!
They were able to provide me a list of ice cream flavors that were gluten free. The worker washed their hands and used a clean scoop, however the manager said they couldn’t open a new container of ice cream from the back, but they could scrape the top layer of ice cream off and scoop from the container in the display case. I didn’t get sick but I probably should’ve went next door to the Michigan creamery
I visited last week and can confirm that their allergy protocols are still in place. The staff member informed me that they would wash up to their elbows, put on fresh gloves, use a clean scoop to get ice cream from a new container, and use a fresh sleeve of cups to put the ice cream in. Great experience!
I visited the location on 2510 Atlantic ave and had a great experience! I knew going in which flavor I could have; told the friendly girl I had a gluten allergy (no one ever knows when you say you have Celiac), asked for her to use a clean scooper. She took the time to sanitize 2 scoopers in the back, use one to scrap back the top 1-2 inchof the icecream, and then used the otber scooper to scoop my icecream from the bottom layer. I really appreciate the extra time and effort she took to limit cross contamination. While there was still potential, her extra steps meant I could enjoy an icecream with my family on vacation. I would recommend knowing which flavor you can have based on the Ben and Jerry's website going in, this helped me make a choice I was comfortable with.
They have a bunch of certified gluten free flavors and when I said I had celiac the manager told me he’d go open a new container with a clean scoop, all without me having to ask and feel like a pain in the butt. So that was nice! No cone options but I think some of the toppings are gluten free.
Fantastic experience! We did not have to indicate an allergy before when we booked the tour and during the tour they were very clear to state if you need an alternative to the free samples provided to let them know. The ingredients were clearly labeled during the tour. At the scoop shop, they followed the protocol listed in the other reviews, provided us a current list of what was available and gluten-free and even indicated that one was gluten-free but did not follow like gluten cross contamination guidelines. Opened new ice cream’s for each flavor we ordered. Fantastic experience!
Has lots of gluten free options which you can view on the website. The staff seemed confused when I asked them to clean the ice cream scoop— they did and I didn’t get sick, but I was told that they don’t have separate scoops for each ice cream so you may want to avoid if you’re super sensitive!
This store will not accommodate gluten free requests. I asked for a fresh bin of ice cream to be opened with a fresh scooper and was told that the ice creams they had out were the only ones that were thawed.
They have a sign inside the shop saying, tell us about your allergies and we will accommodate you. That is not the truth. They didn’t even apologize or anything.
