We’ve eaten here once and my son with celiac didn’t get sick after eating a burger (did not get fries). The staff was friendly and changed gloves. It feels a little sketchy eating here because the overall restaurant feels dirty and is run by teenagers who are focused on joking around with each other. Will probably go back.
The cashier was knowledgeable and kind and he made sure the kitchen staff changed gloves. As there was a newer employee who hadn’t prepared a celiac-friendly order before, the cashier took the time to coach him through making the order.
Great new burger place! I had the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger. The gluten free bun was soft, with good flavor & texture. It didn’t crumble or fall apart like the GF buns at so many places! The burger was cooked thoroughly & the fries were very good. I will definitely return & recommend it to others!
My turkey burger was fire!!! Soooo delicious!!! It's called the Lean Green. Fries are safe too. 10/10 recommend :)
My daughter is VERY sensitive to gluten. The slightest cross contamination gets dinner sent back from her stomach. Everything went very well for her at Mooyah Burgers and the food/ service was EXCELLENT. It is so hard for her to eat out and this one is a real gem. She had the 1/2lb burger, lettuce and tomato on a GF bun. Also had th sweet potatoe fries.
Delicious burgers, but really hit or miss with staff. Some are very knowledgeable while others know nothing about gluten or cross contamination. They've remade burgers for me no problem if necessary. No dedicated kitchen space or fryers as far as I know. I'm personally not very sensitive to cross contamination, so I haven't felt sick.
They have gf buns here. I haven’t had any issues. Milkshake is also great.
RUN away! Located in the Food Court of the Mall, the employees have no idea of what gluten is! After ordering with an Udi's gluten free bun ($1.99 extra) they loaded my husband's burger with a handful of crispy onion straws, then proceeded to make my bacon cheddar, all with the same gloves. NO dedicated fryer. Initially they said yes, but then when I questioned further, they said, "Well the onion straws are dipped in flour and cooked in there"! We were both miserable all night and most of the day. Again, RUN away. Definitely not safe for Celiacs. Also, no combos. All ala carte, so $32 for 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 drinks. Would have said NO stars but review requires at least one!!
While I have not had a bad experience at this location, was assured the sweet potato fries did not contain gluten ingredients, but online it says that they do(website nutrition info) so steer clear of those. Otherwise the regular fries and gluten free buns are good.
Overall good. Gluten free bun available and it's good--not just the styrofoam like UDIs most have. Diaz appointed though, I specifically asked if sweet potato fries contained gluten and was told no. Now looking online the nutrition info says yes to gluten and wheat. So hopefully I do not become ill. It's my own fault, really, I should just always check online. Regular fries are safe for future. Will go again with caution.
You have to say "it's because of a wheat allergy" when you go in, otherwise since they play to hippie gimmicks, you'll get the hippie treatment. They are trained and cool about it, though. It's one of my usual lunch spots by work, so lately the lead cook notices me come in and alerts the staff. It's crucial you check the website first. The gluten free menu online is informative with the relevant disclaimers; shared fryer, which burgers do/do not include items containing gluten. The double diablo is fair game. Shove that mountain of fatty goodness into your belly.
Told cashier taking order I was celiac; cue clueless stare. Explained I cannot have wheat. Ordered a double burger with GRILLED ONIONS and BACON on a GLUTEN FREE BUN. Walked away and saw he put onion strings instead of grilled, heavy sigh. Told person running the line as well as cashier, they were so annoyed with me!! Had to stand for 25 minutes watching and didn’t get the bacon, but got the gluten free bun. They are a very poorly run overpriced copy of five guys. Don’t bother if you’re celiac
Gluten free bun was good, I think it’s Udi’s. Their fries are GF too and made to order. They even have a lettuce wrap option, I will be going back again!
This one is nasty (2530 University dr) .... go to the other one by target that I left a good review on. Here my order was wrong, the gf bread was old and disgusting, tomato hard, avocado brown. If this would have been my first visit to MOOYAH burgers, I would have never been back!!!
We were traveling through area and stopped for burger and chocolate milkshakes. I though based on reviews there would be no problem. After a short discussion they said milkshakes were not gluten free. They seemed confused. We went next door to eat where there was no confusion.
Great gf bun. Food was great. Will be returning.
Was first customer of the day. Ordered gluten free bun, verified that they used a dedicated fryer ordered sweet potato fries with a mushroom Swiss burger. The staff is friendly but untrained. They brought potato fries by mistake and after eating half the burger I asked what the fried onion rings were breaded with and they said flour. I paid $12.74 to get sick. I even commented to them that the other chains that advertise gluten free have made me sick. I was looking forward to a safe fast food burger. WRONGGGGG!
I wanted to love this place for my celiac son. They have designated fryers for the fries, but I watched a staff member pick up the basket for the chicken fryer and place it right on top of the fry fryer. When I addressed cross contamination with the manager he acted like I was crazy. Not worth the risk!
First time, so will need another trip for 5 stars. Excellent burgers fries, gf bun was excellent.
When I mentioned I needed a gluten free bun, they were very on top of things of making sure there was no cross contamination. When they brought out our order, the waitress stated that the fries at that time were not gluten free before I even had a chance to ask. They went above to make sure that I didn't have an issue.
One of the easiest GF experiences I’ve ever had! Their burgers are customizable so you choose 1/4 or 1/2 pounder. Next, you choose the type of bun you want, lettuce wrap is an option, and the GF bun is included for no extra charge. You select all your own toppings and sauces (most of which are GF). The fries are amazing! I went back and ordered more! I would definitely go back!
They had no GF buns the day we went. The girl behind the counter was not knowledgeable at all about GF, but I appreciated her honesty in admitting that, instead of pretending like she knew. My daughter loved that she could get a hot dog (no bun) and could eat the fries, which were delicious! We didn't get a shake because they put gluten containing ingredients in the mixer and I was afraid of cross-contamination. If we had one of these where I lived, I would definitely visit it often!
Too many stipulations. I have a pet oeave when they even put fries on a gluten free menu when the dryer is shared with breaded products. It's not gluten free, then!! Even shakes say contamination is possible. Very frustratingly deceiving.
Nice gluten free menu. Gluten free bun and fries. Excellent and this Celiac had no problems.
Was standing in line to order when I watched them touch and prepare the in house buns that are not GF and then went to prepare the next order without changing her gloves. Sorry had to leave. Was so excited that there were GF buns too. Darn.
Pretty much the only gluten free fast food burger in Athens. Feel pretty comfortable about eating here. The menu options are clearly marked, they have a dedicated fryer for their fries and the staff seem conscientious. I’ve eaten here three times with no problems, but I wish they still had gluten free buns. As it stands you’re stuck with a lettuce wrap which is pretty messy.
The gluten free bun is delicious, but the staff doesn’t seem to know what gluten is. They told me the milkshake wasn’t gluten free because it contained milk. Also, the dedicated fryer isn’t dedicated at all because the staff uses it to fry chicken when they’re busy, then use it for “gluten-free” fries when they aren’t busy. The manager had no interest in learning how dangerous that is for Celiacs. Avoid the fries, but the burgers are really good.
