Had a GF "menu" which was a list of how a server modifies food to put in the system. Not a lot of options. Initial food came out wrong but they caught it. Was ok but would not eat there if I had a choice

Truly awful experience here. They now do have a GF menu, but it is extremely limited and every dish on it requires significant modifications. I tried to keep it simple and ordered two chicken tacos on corn tortillas. My plate came out with Mexican rice on it. As that contains gluten and it was touching the tacos, the whole plate had to be remade which took 25 minutes. My family was done eating their meals by the time mine came out and when it did, it was just corn tortillas, plain unseasoned chicken and hot sauce. Even the manager said, “we weren’t sure what you could you have so we gave you some hot sauce”. Really?! Felt like I was back in 1993. Get with it, Unlce Julio’s!!!! Based on this fact and many, many other mistakes the kitchen and my server made, I will never return.

this place is fine if you avoid the chips but there are limited offerings - you can email them for the list of limited gf menu offerings. These seem to change fairly often (they have updated their menu a few times in the last few years) but usually it’s ceviche, fajitas without marinades, salads without the taco shell etc. I posted a screenshot of their email from November 2023 with the gf offerings at the time and what could be modified to be gf. I do not get sick here but I’m not adventurous when I order here.

As a big uncle Julio’s fan prior to celiac diagnosis, it was disheartening to find out they have zero gluten free options. Everything is marinated in soy sauce and no dedicated fryer for chips.

I used to eat here all the time before going gluten free. They don’t have a gluten free menu but gluten “friendly.”

This is what my server gave me:

- Queso Blanco/ Chile con Queso - Honey chipotle salmon, no honey glaze - Guacamole/TSG - Veggie Dilla, sub corn tortilla - Taco Salad, no tortilla, fajita chicken no marinade, ranch dressing only - Bacon wrapped, no butter & no mexican rice sub cilantro rice - Pechuga de pollo, no butter, fajita chicken no marinade, no mexican rice sub cilantro rice - Filet mignon fajitas, no agave queso, no mexican rice sub cilantro rice, no marinade - Camarones diablos, no butter, no mexican rice sun cilantro rice - Guadalajara, no butter, fajita chicken no marinade, no mexican rice sub cilantro rice - Jalisco, no butter, fajita chicken no marinade, no mexican rice sub cilantro rice - Cheese enchiladas, depending on sensitivity (tortilla is dipped in fryer) there is cross contamination. No salsa carne, sub queso and no mexican rice

I also ordered the quesa- birria as there is no soy/gluten used in it!

TL/DR not a great GF place. There are much better options in Tulsa at half the price.

I ended up here for a family event with a party of 9. They do not have a gluten free menu. The waiter talked to the kitchen and said everything is marinated in soy sauce so they didn’t have any options. A few minutes later, the waiter came back and said they could do beef or chicken fajitas without the marinade. Great, I ordered beef. All of the meals arrive except mine. I’m told they pre-marinated everything. A few minutes later the manager comes by and says he is making the kitchen prep fresh fajita meat without marinade. I got my meal as everyone else was finishing up. It wasn’t that great. On the plus side I didn’t get sick. They did comp my meal for the trouble.

They had soy sauce and wheat in unexpected places and foods. It would be best to skip this place if you have celiac as the food you can have is quite limited and if you didn’t specifically ask you would probably order something you thought was safe and end up getting gluten poisoned.

Also chips are corn but fried in same fryers as wheat items so they are a no go for people with celiac

When I called the staff assured me it was safe. I went in and the waiter had no idea what gluten or celiac was- but understood it was very serious. He consulted the chef and they gave me a “gluten friendly” menu. A manager came out and walked me through the menu. Because of cross contamination most items on this menu were unsafe for celiac. I did find something to eat and felt fine after. I wouldn’t necessarily plan a trip here- but if you end up here as a celiac they will take it seriously.

You can do GF here BUT they need to prepare your food separately, which they will do, but it will take longer. Their fajitas are among the best around, but they use a wheat-based soy sauce in their marinade. So you need to ask for your meat to be prepared GF without the marinade and in a separate pan. They will do this for you! But it will take a little longer. So perhaps enjoy a delicious margarita and some chips, salsa, and guacamole while you wait. They also have corn tortillas. ALSO: You have to be sure to get the plain/white/cilantro rice (not the standard Mexican rice) and the only the black beans (ALL the other bean options (charro and refried) have gluten). Changing the meat is not enough, you have to watch out for the sides. But if you do all this, you will have a tasty fajita meal without gluten. And I’ve never been sickened when they do all this for me. Since it takes longer, we tend to order this as takeout that way we can order about 30-min before pickup and then enjoy our meal at home. A family favorite we do a few times a month. But if you stay, be sure to have a delightful margarita while you’re there!

If you have celiac disease, I do not recommend this establishment. The waitress was sympathetic and worked with me on my order, but lots of the seasoning and sauces had to be omitted because they had gluten-containing ingredients. My salad was very bland. I couldn’t even snack on the chips and salsa due to cross contamination from the fryer. No dedicated fryer in the restaurant. Very disappointed!

I came here July 2022 for my boyfriend’s birthday. I was worried after seeing the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised! They had white corn chips already at the table and when I asked what I would be able to order, they said they could make most things on the mesquite grilled and fajitas parts of the menu and that they would clean the grill and separate my food on it. I got the chicken fajitas with rice and black beans and everything was delicious!!

Just save yourself a lot of literal pain and suffering and don’t go here.

After talking with the waitress who seemed unsure about anything to do with celiac disease or gluten, she confirmed that there were only two menu items that my wife could eat. She couldn’t even eat the tortilla chips. No meat at all from this “from scratch” restaurant because everything comes in pre-marinated, so she ordered a sad taco salad with no meat, which came out in a giant taco bowl. I immediately questioned whether the bowl was made from a flour or corn tortilla and she said “i think it’s corn?” Turns out it was flour. Then her solution was to just take it off the plate.

This place has absolutely zero idea how accommodate someone with celiac disease or allergies and they clearly don’t care. It’s a shame, because Mexican food does not inherently need to contain gluten. I’d highly recommend La Sandia down at Tyson’s corner if you want some gluten free Mexican food, but stay away from Uncle Julios.

And yes, she still got sick, we suspect because they likely didn’t listen and just took the shell off the salad instead of actually remaking it.

I got sick eating here even though I tried my best to order carefully. Waiting in the bar for a table I asked Server about the chips with the guacamole. She said she wasn’t sure. Got to the table and asked that server. He didn’t know either but said he’d ask. Responded they were ok to eat. I was feeling a little uncertain and also not sure what I could order. The server had a manager come talk with me. He immediately told me I could not eat the chips (thankfully I had refrained) And gave me options for dinner. He offered jicama as a sub for chips which I appreciated. Unfortunately I still got sick eating here. Don’t recommend.

No Gluten Free menu. Both hostess and server said the restaurant was “gluten friendly” but cross contamination was “very likely”. Almost every menu item uses flour tortillas or chips cooked in a shared fryer. Their special Margarita was overly sweet, artificial tasting, and watered down. I ordered a salad without chips or dressing since it was the only safe item I could find on the menu. All of their menu selections were overpriced; the entire facility was run down and dirty. Only good part of my visit was that I avoided getting sick. (Had to give one star, would have given zero stars if possible).

My mom wanted to go here for the piñata dessert (which has churros in it so a no go) and also wanted to have dinner. We came on a relatively busy night but was able to go and not be glutened. You have three options: pork tacos, cheese and onion enchiladas, and the veggie fajitas with corn tortillas (i omitted the tortillas from reading past reviews and how they are unsafe). Chips are flour as well. The guac is fine and very delicious. All of the entrees were ok, but not worth the price. Two from my party had the mixed berry margaritas and they said they were delicious, as they don’t use the mix but use all fresh ingredients. It is a very hard place to eat at and they can only tell you it is gluten friendly, not gluten free. Will probably not go back because the food isn’t super impressing and we like other Tex-Mex restaurants better than here. The piñata is very amazing though and would definitely come back just for that and the guac.

There were no menus, the server didn’t know what was safe, and they have to make everything special so the wait is about 45 minutes after ordering.
