They had a dedicated fryer for chips. Waitress wasn’t sure but then went back and confirmed from the kitchen that did. Food was good. Didn’t get sick.

This is the original Lupe’s! It’s my family’s and my fav tex-mex since I was born basically. When diagnosed I felt so discouraged I wouldn’t be able to eat here, and the level of safety but I’ve made alternative options to be able to eat here safely and have the amazing margs!
1. I bring my own chips in my purse (I get an extra salsa to dip or a spoon for queso/gauc and my family is great about putting it on their plate so no CC)
2. I heat and bring my own corn tortillas in foil in my purse. (Note: they have lettuce cups and corn tortillas but they aren’t the safest - they try their best to clean the grill but I am extremely sensitive).
3. I get the mixed fajitas and they are safe! I make my tacos first before the rest of my family and all is well!
I know this is extra and sometimes not the most convenient but as my family’s local amazing mexican restaurant I make the time to feel safe. Celiac is not easy but never feel discouraged!

This place is amazing!! Pretty much everything is GF except the flour tortillas and the corn ones are so soft they seem to be flour!! Eaten here on multiple occasions and with takeout and never been glutened!

I eat here regularly. There is a tiny wheat symbol by items that aren’t gf. Everything else is. I also have no issues with my dairy allergy. I just eliminate cheese and sauces.

I ate here one year ago and got sick. I saw there were more positive ratings so I decided to revisit. Unfortunately we were told the corn tortillas are cooked on the same surface as flour tortillas. One of my 2 celiac daughter is highly sensitive (like me) so we left the restaurant before placing an order. The server was very kind.

I haven't been to the Allen location in awhile… so I was really taken aback to learn chips are made in a shared fryer. Really disappointed.

We have had good experiences here but there are limitations. Chips and fried taco shells are not safe. We were told that the corn tortillas are safe from cross contamination at this location and we haven’t had any issues after eating them. A manager came to our table when she noticed that our order contained a crispy taco shell and gave us options to replace that item.

TexMex is my comfort food. I love this place and we eat here often. The staff is familiar with items that are safe, if not they are willing to ask or customize it for you.

I’ve been to two locations. While I haven’t gotten sick, I did get very bad information from the wait staff at the 183 location. First my waiter very confidently told me the chips were cooked in a dedicated fryer. Then he told me the enchiladas were definitely GF and prepared on a safe surface. But then the manager came over and told me she has a gluten intolerance and would NOT eat the chips or the enchiladas. In the end I changed my order to be to-go, since it was already in the works, and took it home to eat in case I did get sick. I didn’t, but due to the uncertainty of the staff I will not go back to that location.

The food is incredible. Very tasty. I tried it for the first time a month ago and liked it so much, went back a week later. I don’t remember if the menu was clearly marked with GF next to item. But I did ask the server and he was very knowledgeable and was a big help. However my allergy is mild so a little cross contamination doesn’t make me sick.
BEWARE: tortilla chips are NOT gluten free!!!!!! I ate half a basket before I was told. RIP. I didn’t ask because I’d been to another location and was assured they were fried in their own fryer, so that’s my fault for not asking. When I asked if another item was gluten free my server informed me that the chips were not (too little too late, but again, my fault for not asking — just celiac things).

I told my server I had a gluten sensitivity when my fiance and I sat down. He said the chips shared a fryer with other items, and that's personally not something I've ever had issues with before. I appreciated the warning. The menu does a good job explaining what is/isn't gluten, and my server was great about communicating with the kitchen. Tasted great and had no issues the next day.

Been here a few times (some at this location and some at others) and gotten very confusing feedback about safety. I’ve eaten at other locations where they’ve taken it very seriously, staff has been knowledgable and I’ve never felt bad afterwards. However, at my most recent visit the server spoke with the manager who informed me no food could be made safely and that they could not help. Not sure if that’s from wanting to limit liability, her being uninformed, or thinking I was lying about celiac disease. I felt uncomfortable eating there and left because I did not think the food would be made safely.

Lupe Tortilla is the BEST Tex-Mex restaurant in Houston & Dallas!!! The chips are gluten free and the bean dip is very addictive. I love the margaritas and the beef fajitas are very favorable as they are only marinated in lime juice. I have Celiac Disease and this is my go-to Tex-Mex restaurant whether I’m in Houston or Dallas.

Had been going to Lupe on and off, but today I had a great waitress who went the extra mile to ensure we didn’t get cross contaminated. Sadly, they dry their chips in the same fryer as other gluten items. Additionally, the tortilla press used for corn tortillas is also used for flour. So your options are much more limited on the menu. Even then, they use a shared grill for many items. Maybe safe for sensitive folks but not for celiac. They do label the menu with items that cannot be made gluten free but failed to recognized cross-contamination makes most of their meals unsafe.

First, I am celiac and did not get sick. The manager, Barbara, met us at the hostess station to explain gf options to us. She also spoke with our waitress and the kitchen staff regarding our needs.
The fajitas ARE gf but the chips are NOT. I had the fish tacos (from the New section of the menu). They were amazing! The soft corn tortillas were so good that I had to be assured they were gf. The cheesy rice was really good too. They brought bean dip (which was gf) with the complimentary salsa and chips. Since I couldn’t have it with the chips, I ate it with my tacos.
The fresh brewed ice tea was great too!
Barbara checked on us a couple times to make sure everything was good. I promised her this good review if I didn’t get sick 😊

Ordered delivery and the order was wrong, what they sent was not what we ordered. Called to get it fixed and they said there's nothing they can do about it because they're closed. Now it's too late to order anything else that would be celiac safe. Ruined my night!

I asked for corn tortillas instead of chips. Tested the tortillas with my Nima sensor and found gluten. They were thicker than the tortillas they use in their enchiladas. Chips tested safe. Green chicken enchiladas, rice and beans also safe. On my next trip I had carne asada with green beans. Very good.

The service was great. Server answered my questions re: gluten and was honest when he didn't know. My husband ordered guacamole and the server brought me corn tortillas on his own so I could have some guacamole, too. He also adjusted my order to eliminate chips and brought us an extra order of corn tortillas to take home for my leftovers.
I had the tableside guac with corn tortillas and a tex-mex omelet with potatoes and refried beans. My only wish is that they had GF pancakes, but the omelet was really good and the guac was fantastic.

My experience here was outstanding. When I told our server that my wheat/gluten allergy is life-threatening, she explained that most of the menu can be modified safely and anything that cannot be modified is marked directly on the menu. She then brought out the chef who explained that they wipe down surfaces when handling allergy meals and they prepare the food separate from the flour tortillas. She also double checked the sauce ingredients just to make triple sure my meal was safe. The manager also came out later to check in and make sure everything was right. I got the lunch portion green chicken enchiladas and felt like a little piece of me was back after many long years of not being able to find a Mexican restaurant I felt safe to eat at. I will be back!

Always love Lupe Tortilla. Asked the manager about the Chips and he said for the most part they are fired separately but there are rare occasions where flour gets fried in them. For desserts. For Celiac he recommended no, which was fine. I just ordered some corn tortillas which are incredible and had those with Quac before the steak Fajitas. One of the few TEX MEX with so many options. Love love Lupe

I usually eat at a different location and am always happy with the safety and taste at Lupe. My experience at this location was not a great one due to a waiter who did not let me complete a single sentence during our entire experience, including “I have a gluten allergy” which was cut off at “I have a g…” Luckily the majority of the menu is gluten free so the odds were in my favor and I made it out of there safely but that’s a pretty concerning quality for a waiter to have if you need to communicate a food allergy.

I just LOVE Lupe Tortilla. They are so quick, great service, and knowledgeable about GF living. All of the menu is gluten free except for flour tortilla meals. Their brunch is only served on the weekend, but you definitely need to make sure to stop in! The puffy taco and cheese enchilada are my favorite items. Their queso and salsa is to die for & they have GOBS of adult drink options. It is a *little* pricey but it is worth every penny!

I had eaten here one other time before being diagnosed as celiac several years ago. I told the waiter I was celiac. He said everything on the menu was GFany dish with flour tortillas. I then asked if the chips were fried with anything that could cause cross-contamination. He told me they were not so they were safe to eat. I ate a few chips with the salsa and beans that came with them. I'm still a bit wary of eating out regardless of what a restaurant tells me so I played it safe and ordered something with a low chance of having flour...soup and salad. I did not get sick.
The service was great and the food was good, so I will definitely eat here again. BTW, instead of marking GF items on the menu, they mark gluten containing items since the menu is mostly GF.

Although this location does not have gluten free, baked chips like the Bay Area location does; I was able to order gluten free cheese enchiladas and go home without having issues, and it was delicious! My food did appear to have been cooked first and so was cold while the rest of my table had hot foot; so perhaps next time I’ll tell them to bring mine out as soon as it’s ready if it’s a special prep thing that calls for my food coming out separately!

Always love a Lupe visit. So many gluten free options and the margaritas are super fresh and delicious. Service is a little slow and expect to wait during peak times. If you can go during non peak times or checkin online before going. After you order a marg go ahead and ask for another. Table side guac is a must. I ask for corn tortillas to dip bc the verdict on the chips is that sometimes they are gf and sometimes they are not. I love the fish tacos and the carnitas tacos. Fajitas are a great choice too. Can swap your rice and beans for a premium side like Brussels sprouts or roast corn. Gluten containing items are marked on the menu since most of the menu is gf
