Great experience, gluten free prominently marked on the menu, and the wait staff seemed pretty knowledgeable about how to navigate the offerings. Cross contamination occuring in fried items like the chips, they didn't have a separate fryer/prep area. This was clearly communicated, and for those who are okay with that it was a very gluten friendly location.

Awesome Tex-Mex and many Gluten Free options. The regular tortillas are NOT gluten free as they are fried in a shared fryer. However, the will make you baked chips or better yet they will let you bring your own. Queso, Salsa, and all sauces are gluten free. Fajitas were delicious. Cannot wait to have it again.

Let the waiter know I had both gluten AND dairy allergies when we sat down and again when I ordered. I ordered the shrimp tacos with no sauce because it was called “creamy” so I assumed it had dairy in it. He didn’t know but, said he would ask. By the time we got our food, I wasn’t hungry so just took it to-go. Got home and it’s covered in the creamy poblano ranch. Called the restaurant back and talked to the manager. She apologized and said this sauce has both gluten and dairy. So glad I checked before I ate!
They have lots of options on the menu that can be made safe but, you really need to double check with a manager! Also, the labels on the menu just mean it “can” be made safe, so make sure you specify!

Oh my word- the (fluffy) corn tortillas are so good. I had to double check that they weren't flour. We shared the trio fajitas- beef, chicken and shrimp. I honestly didn't even get to the chicken. Shrimp and beef were amazing. The guacamole was great. I read a review about asking for baked chips, but I just brought in some of my own Siete chips. The beans that come as an appetizer were really delicious. Be careful not to fill up on those. đ Most of the menu comes gluten free and everything was great.

I called first to ask questions and the manager eased my mind - they have a dedicated fryer for the tortilla chips and will use clean boards to prep your meal if you say it’s a gluten allergy (I’m celiac but it’s easier to just say allergy for their protocol). Most things can be made gluten free unless they have a little wheat symbol on the menu. I enjoyed the chicken poblano - didn’t want to tempt fate with any other rescues or things. Feeling great! Yummy!

My husband and I are from Dallas and were so happy to find this place on our adventure. EVERYTHING is gluten free on the menu unless it’s marked with a “wheat” symbol. You’ll have to ask your waiter for baked chips since the ones they bring are fried in a shared fryer. Our waiter was very upbeat and made sure with his manager and the kitchen the items we ordered were gluten free. We both ordered an enchilada platter with rice and beans and they were delicious! Someone said the rice wasn’t gluten free but it is now! My husband has Celiac and would’ve reacted right away if it wasn’t and he was just fine. Reasonably priced and large portions as well. Definitely a must try when in this area.

I would have given a 5, the food was awesome, our server had a great attitude, and food came out fast. The only gripe I had was that the server himself wasn’t knowledgable about gluten free, however he may have been pretty new. He did however check with his manager on everything we ordered, and made sure everything was safe to eat. I will definitely go back!

Lupe is one of the few places I trust!
I saw another comment on the rice containing gluten, this is because it is not GF! I usually order fajitas corn tortillas and baked chips. I eat here several times a month and have never been sick. This is my go to favorite place to eat. I am extremely gluten sensitive.

I love Lupe Tortilla!! I have eaten here numerous times with no issues. I love the chips & bean dip. The chips are safe for those with Celiac Disease. Fajitas are great with corn tortillas. Highly recommend Lupe Tortilla for Tex-Mex!!

We went here because the menu specified that all items can be made gluten-free unless otherwise marked. However, the restaurant fries everything in the same oil, which I was not made aware of until after I ordered. I changed my order and just got a salad, but I ended up terribly sick. My guess is that it was the chips, but I don’t know for sure.

The food was amazing... I got the barbacoa Benedict and LOVED it! I had to take away some stars because the service was awful... mistake after mistake and lots of "misunderstandings" between us and both the server and the manager, and the server and manager blaming the misunderstandings on the kitchen, etc., đ Ultimately the manager paid for our side of guacamole đ But either way, even though it was cold by the time it came out, the food tasted good, and i didn't get sick, so that is what is most important for this app.

Almost all the menu is gluten free except for the flour tortillas. You can ask for corn tortillas. Waiter was knowledgeable and the menu says it that the only thing is marked non gluten-free are the flour tortillas and the items that are made with it.

I’m having to change my review since I no longer eat here because it’s not safe. They make the regular flour tortillas in house, so flour is on all surfaces and there’s no way to keep food gf.

My nutritionist advised me to go gluten-free since she senses I have an allergy. After browsing dozens of menus, I felt most confident dining out GF (for the first time) here. Our waitress was Desiree, and she was phenomenal. I wasn’t sure if the chips were GF or not, so I opted not to eat them. I had the Chicken Lupe Del Mar with corn tortillas - my husband had the same thing. My dad had the tortilla soup with some tacos. Our food was brought out separate, and I was extremely impressed with how many GF items were on the menu. Unless specified, everything is GF. That really put me at ease.
I’ve also had the salmon, mahi mahi, and other dishes here with seasonal veggies instead of rice. The menu really accommodates to those watching calories or who have food allergies.

Does not have the same menu as a lot of Lupe’s so no gluten free items marked. Manager said they were not set up as gluten free and wasn’t confident about being able to avoid cross contamination.
No gluten free options. Manager said he could make something, but wasn’t confident about it being safe.

These reviews must be from employees. Every time I have eaten here (three strikes you're out) I have gotten sick from cross contamination.
No
Really good, but sad that no dedicated fryer and thus no chips and salsa for me.
Yes
Staff was helpful and seemed to understand gluten allergy. Almost everything on the menu is or can be made gluten free, but you'll need to ask your server whether an item is gluten free already or has to be modified. The main thing to look out for are things with flour tortillas and things that are fried (which includes the chips), as they do not have a dedicated frier.
I had the Tex-Mex enchiladas, which did not need to be modified. Great meal, no gluten reaction.

Yes, Celiac Friendly! Best and safest place I've ever been! The largest selection of gluten free items I've ever seen! So much so that no separate menu is needed. Infact, there are very few items that do have gluten. The Founder had a gluten intolerant child and developed the recipees out of love!

Very knowledgeable, plenty of options. Definitely the best Tex-mex in town, even for folks who aren’t gluten free.

Best Tex-Mex restaurant in Houston!!! I love Lupe Tortilla because a) the bean dip & salsa are both gluten free and b) the beef fajitas are gluten free. Just make sure to order corn tortillas. I go to Lupe Tortilla a lot and have never had a problem eating here.
Yes
We ordered the chips baked. We tested my daughter’s food with the Nima, corn tortillas, rice and frijoles charros. Unfortunately they came back positive. She had already eaten the chips when we tested her food. She usually gets sick within 15 minutes so they appeared to be safe as she didn’t get ill, but I wouldn’t trust their food unless you are only gluten sensitive and have a higher tolerance.
No
Mostly gf offerings on the menu. Basically only the burritos with flour tortillas are not gf. Service is hit or miss, but the food always tastes great!
Yes
All of their sauces are gluten free. If you tell them you are specifically GF they will make sure to grill the corn tortillas on a different part of the grill.
This location is not like others. They do not have a gf menu or items listed gf like most other locations. The corn tortillas and every sauce has flour per the manager. That said the manager was great and pointed me in the right direction. I had chicken fajitas with lettuce to wrap and it was good. The options here are limited.
Great selection of gluten free meals! Our waitress was super helpful in answering my questions about their menu. They even add the option to get their corn tortillas instead of the flour. The menu is clearly marked with what contains gluten. It's a little pricey but I felt like it was worth it for the menu.
Yes
Almost the entire menu is gluten-free!!! Unless it is marked with a wheat it is already GF or can be by getting corn tortillas. And everything is delicious!!!!!
We eat here often and it’s so mice to have many gluten-free options. I’ve never gotten sick from anything. The crab & avocado enchiladas are my absolute favorite!!

I went to the Katy Grand Parkway location. The waiter was kind enough to inform me that there was a very high chance of cross contamination even if I got corn tortillas because they are made in the same location as the flour tortillas. But I was able to eat the fajitas without tortillas. I appreciated the waiter being knowledgeable and letting me know what was and wasn’t safe. I wish the menu labeled things clearly though.
No
Celiac friendly! Menu is marked and staff was knowledgeable.
Yes
I always order the beef or chicken tacos made with CORN tortillas and black beans. Skip the chips (not GF)...I usually take my own corn chips to eat my queso with.
Chips NOT gluten free. No chip options, so bring your own chips. Beans that they serve at the table not GF. Only items listed with gluten were burritos, so you MUST ask for prep if you are celiac.
Their fajitas are amazing. The staff seemed very knowledgeable about what was GF and what was not.
Have a lot of gluten free options, but not a lot that are vegetarian. Food was really good! Chris helped our table, and was super awesome because he saved me from eating the glutened chips (they baked us special chips, can’t use the fryer). Pretty good margaritas too!

I have eaten Mexican food in many countries in the world.
Even in Mexico City, I’ve been able to have a very nice and tasty Mexican menu customized to my several food allergies, it’s not too complicated, just a clean pan and the good will, Mexican food is celiac friendly food!
I never imagine that here in US, where there’s enough information about how to handle special diet clients I was going to experience such a rude discrimination and even worst from the restaurant manager!
We came to your restaurant at Katy just because Trip Advisor states that this is a gluten-free options place, but this wasn’t true - confirmed by the person in charge of the restaurant who didn’t make any effort to even try to accommodate my needs.
What was I asking?! Grilled veggies with no lemon, chicken o shrimp with no wheat marinated sauce ... I would’ve been please with a guacamole made from scratch (no lemon) so I could share our Sunday’s Lunch with my familia ... BUT to that simple request He answered that the guacamole was already prepared ... he didn’t even want to take a $1 avocado and serve it ... I held my tears, not my anger because we has so rude :(
He firmly said that that is not a celiac safe place
No
Staff was great. Most of menu can be made gf. Best corn tortillas ever

Not celiac friendly. I received my meal with chips on the plate even after informing the waiter that I was Celiac. He seemed to be clueless. Very disappointed.

Best Mexican restaurant for gluten free in Katy
Staff was so knowledgeable on gluten allergy. Their chips are fried in a shared fryer so don’t eat if you are celiac. They went above and beyond to make sure we got the right food and that special care was taken for our food. The head chef came to our table to talk to us and explained the care they take our gluten allergies and answered any questions we had. All of the fajitas are 100% gluten free (the steak was our fav) and they come with corn tortillas. The fajitas were out of this world delicious! They made any special accommodations they could so our kids could get food they wanted - ex. Quesadilla on corn tortillas. We will definitely be back!
Yes
I was a little bit worried about cross contamination because it’s so busy and the kitchen must be slammed. However, I’ve been twice in the past couple of months and didn’t have an issue either time. I played it safe and I didn’t eat any chips or dip. I ordered the steak fajitas, but didn’t get tortillas. They say the corn tortillas are GF, but I’m concerned about the possibility of cross contamination with those. The server wasn’t the most knowledgeable off the top of his head, but checked with the kitchen on a few questions and got back to me with answers (which is what I prefer instead of acting like they know when they really don’t). All around, I had great food and service both times I went. I will gladly go back.
