Gluten free bun was very average. Fell apart when you held the burger.

The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They pointed out that the fries are fried in a separate fryer than gluten, but that the oil is filtered in the same filter machine at the end of the night. I have Celiac but do not have GI reactions. If you are very sensitive and get sick easily, you may not want to chance the fries.

Sometimes the fries are done in a separate oil, other times they aren’t. Wish it was consistent. Good burgers and gf buns.

Burger with gluten free bun is extremely good, for fast food. No fries for me, as they share oil... not safe for many of us.

Only chain I've found that does gf buns! And the burgers were great. Probably not coeliac friendly cos of cross contamination. Staff also won't guarantee gluten free i.e. in milkshakes but I didn't get any reaction

They have gluten free buns, but they don't seem to understand gluten free. They first gave me a fried chicken sandwich on a gluten free bun. Then I got a grilled chicken sandwich on a potato bun. They finally got it right and comped my meal. Fries are fried in a shared fryer.

The staff here was more knowledgeable about gluten free than any other place I’ve ever been, ever. I’ve been to Shake Shack locations at least a dozen times but wasn’t told about possible cross contamination with the fries until I came here the other day. While it’s a dedicated fryer, sometimes they fry breaded shallots in the French fry fryer when it gets busy. The woman at the counter refused to sell me the French fries when I said I was celiac, and honestly, I’ll take that attitude any day over the people who don’t understand celiac at all. Also, their gluten free buns look/taste so good, you can hardly tell the difference between the real deal!

Review is only for their root beer float, I have not tried the burgers. Root beer float was delicious, they use a vanilla custard base and it’s amazing!

No gluten free bun available, no apology and no substitute offered. If we could have gone somewhere else, we would have done but on a Sunday in this part of D.C., not much is open.

I got the Shake Burger with a tasty gluten free bun and the fries. They took gluten free seriously and made sure to keep the gluten free cheeseburger on its own tray.

They tried, they have gluten free buns and separate fryers. but I realized that the bun must have been fried on the griddle or toasted with the other buns. Staffed seemed a little bewildered by the questions, so not consistently trained about allergies. Got sick after eating here. Get it together shake shack! :(

The food was delicious when eating....but do avoid if celiac. I ordered a shack burger with a gluten free bun and the next morning I felt extremely sick and queasy. Chocolate milk shake made me sick on the spot. And employees did not understand my condition and tried to convince me that fries were gluten free....but are not (didn’t eat them). Unfortunate

I typically have great experiences with Shake Shack and even this location. However, today, I had the worse experience I’ve EVER had at amy food establishment. I wouldn’t recommend that anyone with celiacs come to this location. The staff clearly doesn’t understand allergies or the severity thereof. There was gluten on my burger. When I asked them to remake it with proper precautions they diminished and ridiculed me. Maybe I’ve been lucky as a celiac but I’m usually approach with concern and questions about my allergy. Today I was approach with blatant disrespect, annoyance and honestly bullying. I will not be going to this location again and I hope that other celiacs take this as a warning.

Mediocre. They have gluten free buns and seemingly good allergen control, but the menu is very restricted. You can basically get a burger and nothing else.

They have GF bun, and will prepare your burger separately in a GF environment. Good food, good GF protocol in prepping GF food. My go to place.

Best gluten free buns ever. They asked if it was an allergy and they flagged it for me. Bagged separate from the other regular burgers our party had in our to go order (we asked). Great precautions and I never get sick eating here.

Totally enjoyed my gluten free bun and smokestack burger and fries. The bun is safe for celiac sufferers. However, the fries share a fryer with other flour coated foods. I would def return for a burger!!

Shake Shack has one of the best gluten-free buns I’ve had. They toast it on a dedicated grill and it is soft and flavorful. They also have awesome shakes! They do state, though, not to get the fries because they don’t have a dedicated fryer. I will be eating here again!

The staff was very knowledgeable as to how to prepare a gluten-free burger. You can order any burger on the menu and they will prepare it with a gluten-free bun. When you specify allergy and not preference, the person taking the order notifies a staff member in the kitchen who will change gloves, go to a separate part of the kitchen, use fresh ingredients , prepare the gluten-free burger and then deliver it personally to the person ordering it.

Asked if gluten free bun was due to allergy or preference. If celiac, they prepare it specially to avoid cross-contamination. Only had a burger so I can’t comment on the safety of the fries.

I got a gluten free bun plain and a chocolate shake. Not a lot of options but I didn’t get sick so I guess that’s good. Probably won’t eat here again unless it’s my only option.

Delicious gluten free bun. When taking your order, the staff ask if it’s an allergy or preference. Your burger then comes out on a separate tray and wrapped. It’s nice that they take gluten free seriously. However, no dedicated fryer at this location so couldn’t enjoy the fries.

Great tasting burger but not the largest patty. Would I go back? Sure. They ask if you are asking for a GF bun out of preference or need and if you say “need” they apparently cook the meat on a separate grill. I think so because of the way the person helping was making sure we were being taken care of. DO NOT order the fries. Sometimes I can order the fries even if it is in a non-dedicated fryer and the woman helping us warned me not to, but I was silly and tried it. I paid the price and it was my fault. The fries were good though 😉. Seems to be a popular place for having just opened in the downtown area.

Always appreciate when they ask if it’s an allergy and mark it on the receipt to make sure they take extra precautions to keep your meal safe. Amazing fries (make sure to get the cheese) and ask for a lettuce wrap - better than a bun if you ask me

They have a wheat free menu as part of allergy guide. I ordered a hamburger on a gf bun. They cooked separately and I was hysterical to see a hamburger patty on a bed of lettuce:) Safe yet boring meal!

Haven’t had a problem, sometimes the staff offers fries but don’t get them since they use the same oil for fried foods. Watch out for some of they’re shakes and don’t get any of the malted shakes.
