HuHot does not have a gluten free menu but does have an allergen list and a list of gluten free sauces. Ask them to clean a spot on the grill and use different utensils, if necessary.

I always ask for the manager and all for the ingredients from the back. Most of the food is gluten free anyway, I just don't want to rush cross contamination in the buffet line

I was sceptical at first, but I asked the server if they would clean the grill prior to prepping the food, she said yes and also said that she would bring white bowls out to communicate gluten allergy. She the offered to go to the back to get my food fresh so that I wasn't using the food from the bar. I watches the grill guys clean the grill twice, change gloves, and get clean spatulas which they use to "rope" off your food so that those arevthe only utensils that are used. If you go to their website they have gluten free recipies for easy food selection.

I've been a fan of HuHot for years. However, had this been my first experience at a Huhot, I'd never have gone a second time. First off, I came with a friend on our lunch breaks on a weekday. There was us, and one other patron, in the entire restaurant. And the service was so slow that we were there 2.5 hrs! The biggest hold up was that this HuHot, unlike any others I've been to even in 2020, did not let you serve yourself, a staff member had to carry your bowl and put food in it. Except no staff seemed assigned to the food line, so you were standing around waiting for someone to notice you. And apparently the phrase "I just want a little" means a cup of whatever food item. Terrible way to run a buffet.

More importantly for the sake of this review--most importantly this app--for the first time in YEARS of going to HuHots, I was told the sauces are NOT WHEAT FREE!!! There was a big sign over the sauce station announcing that all the signature sauces were gluten free, as always. But after I told them I had Celiac Disease, they pulled out a spreadsheet that showed which sauces contained wheat and which did not! I have been to multiple HuHots in different states around the USA, and have been told multiple times that the signature sauces are made with gluten free soy sauce. I learned today that is not true!

The signature sauces are made with "very low levels of gluten", 20 ppm they claimed. "Only really sensitive people would notice" one person said.

Well that explains the times I left a HuHot feeling like I had mild food poisoning for the next day or so. That also explains why I didn't feel sick everytime: a lot of the sauces containing wheat were not ones I normally get. (I'm usually more about the curry, the thai sauces, etc.)

To be honest, I feel lied to and betrayed by the chain. And the very fact that staffers in different STATES have made the claim the sauces contain gluten free soy sauce would indicate the misinformation came from corporate. I plan to write to their corporate office with this complaint.

In summary, if you're like me, a sensitive Celiac, be very careful about which sauces you use, or mix your own. There are still plenty of foods a Celiac can eat, and they do a good job of scrubbing the cook top. But don't believe them if someone tries to tell you the sauces are gluten free.

Very exciting to be able to go out for Asian food during COVID and feel pretty confident about eating Gluten Free. I had a wonderful experience with knowledgeable staff and clear guidelines for allergy safe dining. I waited several hours after eating to post with confidence that I have not been cross contaminated or glutened. We will def be going back. One thing was that the sauces on menu state that they were all Gluten Free but when I arrived, I was told that had changed since COVID.

My experience before covid was good. I’m slightly less confident when the employees make my food. Before covid: they gave me a yellow bowl to mark it as a food allergy. When filling the bowl, I could ask them to get ingredients from the back fridge, that way I didn’t need to worry about other guests contaminating the buffet. The cooks would clean the grill off before grilling mine since they saw the yellow bowl.

I could not believe the level of care shown by the staff! (One of the cooks there had a family member with celiac) They made sure to clean a section of the grill off extra well and with special cleaning supplies each time I brought food up, and they have dividers to keep your food from accidentally cross-contaminating with other food on the grill. When they accidentally put my food on the regular grill while another cook was preparing a space (not realizing it was mine), they comped my meal. It was just very nice to have so much effort and care put into making me comfortable.

Make sure you are checking the sauces that they have marked GF. On one side of the bar they had GF teriyaki sauce and on the other side it didn’t say GF. During covid they only had one side of the sauce bar open I asked for the GF teriyaki sauce and the manager argued with me that the sign on the other side didn’t say GF. When he went over there it was marked GF. He reported that they use the same sauce on both sides and it isn’t gluten free. They do a really good job of cleaning the grill and making sure there is no cross contamination when it’s cooked. I’m not sure if other Hu Hots have an actual GF teriyaki sauce, but I haven’t been sick at them like I have at the Joplin one. I chalked it up to cross contamination because of the sauces being so close together and sauces getting dropped in others, but now I know that it’s because the sauce isn’t actually GF.

HuHot has a great system for anybody who has celiacs or allergies. The waitress brought a paper with their menu and allergen information. The egg drop soup is great, and the Asian-style salad can be gluten-free if it’s ordered without the ramen on top. At the buffet, there are zucchini noodles and pad Thai (rice noodles). Some of their sauces are listed as containing wheat, but are processed to contain less than 20 ppm (gluten-free by FDA guidelines). They were also really good about cleaning and sectioning off the grill and using new utensils. If you are worried about cross-contamination, there is food in the back, and they also have a gluten-free tamari (soy sauce). The desserts are not gluten-free, but the meal was plenty.

This restaurant is so safe for people with food allergies! They take all the necessary safety precautions and more. When I sat down I talked to my server and I was pointed to a separate stack of yellow bowls that indicate to the chefs that you have food allergies. Every time I walked up to get my food cooked they already had the area prepared. They first clean the grill extra super well and check that I’m comfortable with it, they set out blockers to separate the grill from everyone else’s food, and they use compete separate serving/cooking tools.

It was amazing experience eating here. The chefs took above and beyond safety precautions. I never was left feeling weird or needy for needing extra safety precautions. The second time around of getting my food the grill was already prepared to the safety standard of what I need. I definitely recommend this place!

I used to be able to eat here safely with sauces marked accordingly. I went today and noticed the sauces we not marked any longer but I wasn’t worried. I ate the normal ones I usually do. I have eaten here many times without getting sick. It is a buffet so there is a chance of cross contamination from the line, particularly around the noodles. Look carefully when you are collecting your noodles or ask the staff and they will grab you a fresh tray from the back to pull from. When you get to the grill, let them know you have an allergy and they will clean the grill for you and divide your food from the rest while cooking. If you communicate tour needs, the staff is always quite helpful!

Most of their food is gf, all the sauces are gf, and when you tell the cooks you are gf, they do extra cleaning of the grill and mark a spot off for your food and use clean spatulas. I have eaten there twice and have not had a reaction. The first waiter explained to me to not to eat the rice, soy sauce that's on the table, sausage, and crab. The pad thai noodles are gf. Always enjoy our meal here— they SCRUB the grill and take great pains to minimize/eliminate cross contamination. All of their sauces are GF (though some have wheat that’s processed to be below the PPM threshold to be GF, so if celiac, it might be best to avoid those). 99% of their ingredients are GF, though I wish that they’d move the rice noodles away from the wheat noodles to prevent cross contamination (the staff will provide fresh ingredients if need be).

I’m not celiac but gluten sensitive, but was very impressed with the steps they took when I asked for gluten free options. I got a yellow bowl that was recognized while I was in line, and by the time I got to the grill they had already Brillo scrubbed, washed with water, and secluded an area with spatulas. As the cooks worked their way around the grill, they only used the unique spatulas reserved for my food. Very impressive. Next time I will make sure to get a regular bowl as these precautions are not necessary for me, but it was great to see and I wanted to share. Happy eating!

NOT Celiac friendly, or suitable for a wheat allergy at all! I went there and the manager came and explained how all their sauces are gluten free and they deep cleaned the grill and everything. I got extremely sick and checked their website. Apparently just about every sauce contains wheat, but they claim that it is fermented so it contains less than 20 ppm. I definitely wouldn't have trusted that if I had read it before hand. As far as cross contamination the noodles are at the beginning of the line so everything after has chance of touching gluten. Tasted great but NOT GF.

This place is amazing when it comes to taking care of their GF customers. Yes a customer has to use common sense and read but the restraunt provides special bowls for those with allergies, scrubs the grill prior to an allergy order then they place a special section up to prevent cross contamination with other orders. Not all sauces are GF however they are all clearly marked so you don't get confused. Reading through some of these other reviews I just laugh. Clearly some just expect to be handed everything on platter. Anyone who has celiac disease knows you have to read and ask questions. Even then many people do not know what celiac disease is so you have to educate them. Huhot rocks. I have eaten here several times and never gotten sick.

This place is about making connections and being super polite and advocating for yourself. I went here with 3 gluten eaters. I told the waitress right away that I had celiac and she gave me the allergen menu, she told me her best friend was a celiac too and understood cross contamination. When it came time to grab my ingredients she went to the back for me with the list of items I wanted and grabbed them fresh. They then designated a spot in the grill, wiped it down really well- basically scoured it-and put up barriers so my food wouldn’t mingle with trouble. Most sauces contain wheat, but are processed to less than 20ppm gluten. Luckily there are plenty of fresh sauces that do not contain soy, like ginger and garlic juice, sesame oil, etc.
